Goku was shown once again scared of Beerus this chapter after seeing him use Hakai. Goku won't surpass Beerus until the near end of the series.

Oracle Fish stated Goku and Vegeta will be rivals to Beerus in the future. I don't think surpassing Beerus will come any time soon tbh unless it will be some one time amp to beat some angel/zeno level threat.

Beerus will become Piccolo, Yamcha, Tien basically irrelevant characters once Goku surpasses him. If Beerus becomes that way the sales would drop because Beerus is 1 of the main attraction of Dragon Ball Super.

Just imagine if Luffy pre TS surpasses Shanks already. Shanks would become irrelevant side character. The fact Luffy is still not Shanks level ( he is fighting nerfed Kaido) shows Shanks still get some respect by fandom. Fandom is still talking Shanks fighting style as master of haki.

Luffy already surpassed Smoker and look how irrelevant Smoker is now. How many downplay he got.

You could say Goku and Vegeta are rivals even when one eclipsed the other in power. As long as Beerus has a drive to get stronger, then he could still be a rival even if Goku is stronger at the time.

Pretty sure that was said just before the start of the ToP. Both Goku and Vegeta got significantly more powerful since then.

OT: Goku already surpassed Beerus since the ToP.

@pandalumina: Why would someone who only knows the basic plot idea without knowing any specifics (that Toriyama knows) holds us back? Knowing the credibility of sources is extremely important.

We both know Goku has Beerus beat in literally every category.

EDIT: Alright I saw an interview when they said that Uchida's contribution is Yamcha compared to Toriyama being Goku and Toyotoro being Vegeta. Power balance is Toriyama is 100 million, Toyotoro is 10 million and Uchida is -100.

Guess we believe the -100 credible source to argue that Beerus is superior to Goku /s

When the next arc begin they'll state UE Vegeta is on par with Goku and Beerus will wash UE in a fight.

The moment goku and/or vegeta surpass Beerus will be the moment Dragon Ball gets TOO nonsensical even for hard-core fans and toyotaro/toriyama know it.

If Goku surpasses beerus then the next threats are eventually going to have to be angel level. And then grand priest level and then zeno level. They know once beerus and the gods get surpassed there will hardly be anywhere they can go with the story and actually keep it engaging for the current fanbase.

That's why I think the anime messed up TREMENDOUSLY by even hyping up jiren or Goku to be stronger than some of the gods. It was far to soon for that and It obviously wasn't what toriyama wanted.

It honestly doesn't bother me that Beerus is so hard to surpassed, what does bother is that Beerus's power is constantly retconned to justify Beerus keeping on top.

It's basically, at one point it's said that Goku is about to reach Beerus' level, only for a couple episodes later, it's revealed that Beerus can sweep the floor with him and Vegeta at the same time without breaking a sweat.

--This makes Goku no closer to Beerus than he was 5 years ago.
