Nah, That is a fear that people have that both marvel and dc have proven wrong. People always think if there are two of anything people's heads will implode but it doesnt happen and its currently not happening in the flash books.
They still never explained why New 52 Superman and Lois aren't like the rest of the Rebirth cast and aren't the "real" ones. I don't want that whole plot to be dropped for the sake of shock value no one even thought was cool.
And it actually doesn't take anything away from the supporting cast since they are two different people.
It's not as if there haven't been multiple versions of the same character from two different universe in the same continuity for long periods of time... that is kinda like DC's thing.
And honestly all of these "reasons" are really just justifications for being close minded saying the things you don't want to read shouldn't exist. /shrug
It doesn't always work like with the Flashes or Green Lanterns though. Do you think it would be a good idea for both New 52 Superman and the Pre Flashpoint Superman to exist at the same time? Not only would that overcomplicate things but fans would argue about who the better Superman is and why they should stay.
Well they're going to explain the deal with New 52 Superman and Lois in the Superman Reborn event in March I believe. So that's where you can find the answers to that plot point.
Except that they're both essentially the same character but one has superpowers for no reason. Superheroes are supposed to have normal people in their supporting cast, not just other heroes. Plus New 52 Lois was poorly used and marginalised when DC had Superman date Wonder Woman instead.
Not at the same time though. It's not as if Pre Crisis Barry Allen has existed at the same time as modern Barry Allen, or Silver Age Superman existing in the Post Crisis universe.
It's not just the things I don't like shouldn't exist. It's that it overcomplicates things and tries to appeal to too many people all at once. Before they killed off New 52 Superman I was saying DC would need to pick one version and stick with it, and I felt the same way about Lois. She's not nearly as interesting or well written as the older Lois Lane.
