Poll Did the first issue of Jonathan Hickman's "Ultimate Spider-Man" live up to the hype in your opinion? (4 votes)
So it's obvious that this discussion would be filled with spoilers so beware, readers.
This title was one of the most anticipated Marvel titles from the day it was announced last year. Readers were excited for what one of the best Marvel writers had planned for this iconic comic book character after several well received runs on properties like the Avengers, the Fantastic Four and the X-Men. Just a few days ago, the first issue was released. It introduced a middle aged Peter Parker married to Mary Jane Watson and blessed with two children named Richard and May. To everyone's surprise, this universe's Ben Parker was still alive and was best friends with J. Jonah Jameson. Instead, Aunt May died in an incident prior to this comic book via a staged terrorist attack from The Maker's allies to put the blame on a younger Tony Stark. Lastly, the biggest change in this universe is that Peter does not gain his powers from an accident. Instead he deliberately becomes Spider-Man by his own decision to make a change from his passive lifestyle as a grown adult, becoming tired of being a bystander in his own world.
