Story and Script.
"Ripe"
Ripe is a very nice intro into the world of Dredd for a total Dredd newbie like myself. They give you the information you need, with out making it seemed forced. They didn't need to use paragraph after paragraph of exposition to explain the world. They did it nice and quick and got on with the story. The story can seem a bit over the top at times, but that's what gives it it's charm. The scene where a man attempts to steal something and Dredd gives him five years in prison, it was very good use of dark humor. The line that in Mega-City One everyone could be a criminal all you need is a push, is a fantastic line and really sets the tone of the story. It's pretty fun read, and great intro to the world of Dredd.
"Protection Racket"
The second story isn't as good as the first and feels a bit too filler. The story itself is interesting, and conveys some more very good dark humor. It's an entertaining read, nothing mind blowing though.

Overall
A fun read, that I really enjoyed. I'll definitely be picking up the second issue.
