Monet St. Croix, also simply known as M, is an elitist mutant, former member of Generation X, currently involved in X-Factor Investigations. Edit

Origin

Generation X

Take note: That the Monet that makes her first appearances throughout the Phalanx Covenant event, in Uncanny X-Men #316 where she enrolls in Xavier’s School for Gifted Youngsters, and in Generation X #1 through #40 is actually the M Twins combined to be a replica of the real Monet. The real Monet premiered in Generation X #1 as Hollow because she was stuck in the Penance body and was later freed from the Penance body in Generation X #40. So from Generation X #40 onwards, it's the real Monet.

Monet St. Croix was raised by her wealthy ambassador father in Monaco, accustomed to the finer things that money can buy and blessed with the adoration as father's favorite child.

Monet has three siblings who, like her, have mutant abilities. Her eldest brother's mutant abilities manifested into something like that of a vampire, causing him to feed on other mutant's bone marrow. With his own mother as his first victim, Marius St. Croix turned to dark magic and took on the name Emplate. After an inter-dimensional expedition birthed a desire to rule, he invited Monet to stand by his side in his quest. When Monet callously rejected and ridiculed his offer, he then trapped her in a red skinned, mute body named Hollow. Her younger twin sisters M Twins walked into the room to check on the strange noises coming from Monet's room only to find Emplate and Penance.

Being no more than eight and fearing that their brother killed their sister, the twin sisters used their own mutant powers to banish Marius by teleporting him into another dimension. Knowing that only Emplate could free her, Monet quickly followed him. The twins wanted to spare the father the loss of his favorite child so they merged with each other and impersonated Monet.

The twins, or the M Twins as they were later dubbed, were at some point mentored by the Aboriginal mutant Gateway before they were taken by the alien Phalanx along with many other mutants. Still posing as their sister, the two young girls continued to impersonate Monet when they joined their fellow captives as founding members of the mutant youth group Generation X.

Penance

Their facade would be challenged during the team's encounter with Emplate which caused headmistress Emma Frost to grow tired of "M"'s secrets. Emma Frost tried to use her masterful telepathic abilities to pry into the girls' mind, but they were capable of repelling her intrusions.

After a run in with Bastion and the forces of Operation: Zero Tolerance the twins' facade would come to an end. Following a fierce explosion that buried "M" underneath a destroyed building, the twins emerged from underneath the rubble as two separate entities. The M-Twins would then fall into a coma where their older sister (still trapped in the Penance form) would watch over them as they recovered.

During this time, Emplate reemerged hoping to recapture all three of his sisters. The sound of his voice awakened the twins from their coma and they once again merged into "M". They then merged with Emplate and used their telepathic powers to find out how he escaped the dimension they put him in as well as the true fate of their sister Monet. Emplate tried to take control of their gestalt form, but the twins broke free of Emplate after they were caught in another explosion.

The twins then relayed their story to the rest of Generation X and used their powers to free the real Monet from Penance's body. As a result the twins became trapped in Penance's form before being freed shortly after.

M and Everett
M and Everett

Learning that his children were alive and well, Monet's father, ambassador Cartier St. Croix, hurried to the school to see the children he thought he had lost. He quickly pulled the three girls from the school and transferred Monet to an academy in the Swiss mountains.

There she uncovered her headmaster feeding on his students. She killed the headmaster and returned to Generation X. She then started to date her teammate Synch until he died trying save everyone on the team from a bomb implanted by Adrienne Frost.

Monet took the loss hard. She started to bond with the other kids of Generation X until the team realized their leaders (Banshee and Emma Frost) were no longer reliable mentors. She returned home for a while before joining Banshee's militant group X-Corps until its closing. She then joined the Xavier sponsored international mutant group X-Corporation until it was dissolved following the events of M-Day.

X-Factor

M: Cover Girl

M recently joined X-Factor Investigations in Mutant Town as one of the few remaining mutants following M-Day. When Rictor was pushed off the top of a building by a rogue Madrox dupe, M caught him, insulting Wolfsbane in the process and marking a tumultuous start with her teammates.

Monet was involved with the group's first case by helping to resolve a mysterious murder. She discovered that their client was innocent and made the real murderer confess by scaring him with telepathic illusions of his victim's corpse. Monet shows an uncommon vulnerability from the case and begins to cry in Jamie Madrox's arms, threatening to kill him if he ever told anyone about it.

When SHIELD cornered X-Factor to pressure them into registering for the Superhuman Registration Act, M registered without a second thought, saying she had nothing to hide and is one of the few mutants to do so.

X-Factor

During a team visit with psychiatrist Doc Samson, M reveals that she apparently has to make a decision every morning whether or not to kill herself. She also reveals that she hides behind this M persona because she doesn't want people to see her weakness or revisit the vulnerability during her times with her brother.

Team relations become more complicated when a drunken Jamie Madrox creates duplicates that, without him knowing so, sleep with both teammates Siryn and M in one night. Both women seem enamored with Jamie following their late night tryst, but when Jamie confesses Monet throws him out of a window. Monet constantly throws Jamie against a wall to try to find the dupe that she slept with, causing scared Jamie clones to emerge without a single confession.

Without resolve, Siryn and M ignore each other, but the young Layla Miller shouts at them and forces them to mend the issues between them. M organizes a shopping trip to Paris for the two, and the two become good friends there jokingly insulting each other in one scene.

While the two are in a restaurant, a gang outside set a building on fire. The building is revealed to be a hostel for mutants, or rather ex-mutants, so Siryn and M defend the building, but M gets infuriated when a bullet bounces off her and shatters her Fabergé egg. The scuffle is brought to the attention of the local police, but the two decide to surrender because they don't want to be accused of being felons with everything else going on with mutant affairs.

In jail, a man from the riot earlier walks by, bragging about burning the building and the lives he took. M breaks a bar from the cage and throws it at the man, stoically infuriated with his remarks. We see that M actually crucified the man with bars from her cell.

After they are released, the pair return to the building, to find the little girl from the sitting on a doorstep. The girl, named Nicole, reveals she is now an orphan due to the fire. M, reminded of her own younger sister Nicole, then grabs her and tells Siryn they are taking her with them back to the United States.

M & Siryn

Jamie asks Siryn and M to attend to a clients job (grandparents who got custody to visit their grandchildren but their child wouldn't let them). They go to see one of the grand children's concerts (the grandchildren are the "Purity Singers" who sing for the down fall of mutants), and after a couple of jokes, make they're way back stage. There, Siryn is almost shot but the bullet grazes her skull, and knocks her unconscious. M starts shouting at the sniper, but is snuck up on and is knocked unconscious by a tissue over her mouth that has chloroform on it.

We next see the two locked up in a cabin, M chained to the floor, while Siryn is gagged and bound to a chair. Their kidnappers are revealed to be Clay and Solo. Solo's suit refr

acts light so he was able to sneak up on M.

M finally breaks out of the chains, and when she knocks the door off, they find themselves in the middle of a desert-y type place. They fly back to find the kids, and take the elevator they're in, and take them to their grandparents (with their parents who were in the elevator too). She drops them off on top of a rocky stand where camp has been set up (this is all revealed to be a ploy by the Isolationist to keep the mind-controllers away). She flies back to base, and catches the Isolationist, about to crush Rictor with a car, which he throws at her and he leaves.

During Messiah CompleX, M was rarely seen but eventually took part in the battle finale on Muir Island.

M bought all the women of X-Factor iPhones, but when Wolfsbane revealed she was leaving, M crushed it, promising her Layla's if Wolfsbane comes back (displaying that M doesn't believe Layla will return). Later she is seen talking to Siryn about her pregnancy and suggests an abortion but Siryn dismisses the idea straight away. M also says she's Siryn's best friend now, because Wolfsbane has gone, M is the best thing she's got.

After Rictor is kidnapped by Arcade, Monet's superhuman hearing is the only thing that is able to help track down X-Factor's captured teammate. When she finds him, she's electrocuted with apparently enough electricity to kill twenty grown men, and is knocked out. With her hair the only physical indication of her electrocution, a still rattled Monet confuses her teammates' names with those of other X-Men but still manages to use the head of one of Arcade's robotic henchmen to find the source of its control. Unfortunately, when the team arrives at his hideout Arcade had already escaped and had set a bomb that upon detonation will cause Mutant Town to implode.

Powers

Monet has a multitude of powers, including:

*Superhuman strength - enables her to lift an excess of 10 tons

* superhuman speed, agility, reflexes, coordination, balance, invulnerability, and endurance.

She also possesses a genius-level intelligence, night vision, enhanced hearing, a healing factor, some degree of immunity against toxins, a prolonged lifespan, mid-level telepathy complete with psi-shields, an ability to sense and track mutants and view their auras, and is capable of self-propelled flight.

Furthermore she is able to merge with her siblings Marius (Emplate), Nicolette and Claudette to form new beings. For further details see: M-Plate.

Monet, known as Know-It-All, appeared in the alternate reality known as Age of Apocalypse as a member of the Generation Next team, led by Colossus and Shadowcat. She was never seen in person, only on computer screen, making it likely that she used her mutant powers to fuse with the mainframe computer. When Magneto needed to locate a mutant with chrono-temporal powers, Know-It-All used her abilities to search through s files, locating the best match in Illyana Rasputin, who was being held at the Seattle Core. During the rescue mission, Know-It-All kept Colossus and Shadowcat updated. After the fall of Apocalypse, it is not known what happed to Monet. The twins were part of Apocalypse's elite task force with Emplate they haven't been seen since the fall of apocalypse either since they were in a deep state of shock when Emplate died in battle they might have returned to Monet all three haven't been seen since.
