Secret Invasion

Secret Invasion is a comic book story arc that appeared first in The New Avengers #31

Marvel's current story arc that is now coming into prominence. It seems that the Skrulls have been replacing Earth's heroes leaving one question to be asked, "Who do you trust?" Edit

News

The Skrull are invading Earth. Key figures within the Marvel Universe may have been replaced by Skrull sleeper agents. A possible Skrull invasion is on the horizon, whose seeds were planted during the Kree/Skrull war. The question is...

"Who do you trust?"

Background

The Secret Avengers remain in hiding after the conclusion of the Civil War. The current roster consists of Doctor Strange, Luke Cage, Wolverine, Spider-Woman, Iron Fist, and Spider-Man. Hawkeye, revived by the Scarlet Witch during the House of M, had approached the group wanting to join. Cage was skeptical of his alive-again teammate, but decided to allow him to join. When the team heard that Ronin was captured by The Hand under the rule of Elektra, the New Avengers flew to Japan to rescue her. Maya had been in Japan keeping tabs on Elektra and the hand as well as the Silver Samurai, hoping to try to solve the conflicts between the Hand and the Clan Yashida. Maya was killed, and resurrected by the Hand (as is their normal routine) with the intention of making her an assassin.

When the Secret Avengers reached Japan they engaged in a fight with Electra and the Hand. Brainwashed by the Hand, Maya initially fought on the side of the Hand, resulting in Doctor Strange getting stabbed. At the end of the battle Maya turned on the hand, stabbing Elektra through the stomach. As Electra died her features shifted into that of a Skrull.

The team takes the body back to the United States with them. The flight back is ominous, each of them examining the reasons behind the appearance of this Skrull, and its intention (the intentions of the Skrulls are typically not good). Serious questions begin to be raised. Who among the Earth's population is actually a Skrull? Who among there very ranks could be a Skrull? Is this an isolated incident, or is there something more sinister at work? The skills and magic of the Hand, the powerful magics of Doctor Strange, Spider-Man's Spidey Sense, and even Wolverine's enhanced senses were all unable to detect that this Skrull was not actually Electra. Spider-Woman suggests that this runs even deeper and that the Skrulls may have orchestrated events which have recently damaged the relationship and credibility within the Earth's Superhero community, specifically the events of the Civil War may have been triggered by the Skrulls. Spider-Woman wonders if Iron Man could have been replaced by a Skrull, explaining his behavior during the Civil War. She expresses the desire to her teammates to take the Skrull body directly to Iron Man to determine by his reaction if he is a Skrull or not.

Other members of the team do not like this plan, but they have little time to debate. For unknown reasons, while flying back over the States their plane begins to lose altitude. Knowing that she can fly, Wolverine throws Spider-Woman out of the plane to attempt to balance the load. The plane goes down and crashes. Spider-Woman tries to get to the Skrull body to take it to Stark, but Wolverine cuts her off. She knocks him out with a powerful venom blast, and leaves with the Skrull corpse for Stark Tower.

Spider-Woman presents the Skrull body to Tony Stark, who wishes to keep it secret for the time. He arranges for another meeting with the Illuminati, a powerful group of superheroes that had clandestinely steered major past events within the Marvel Universe. Not only had the heroes of Earth come into battle on several occasions with the Skrulls, the Illuminati had as well. They had initially formed after the Kree-Skrull War, and had threatened the Skrulls that any more attacks would start a war. The members were even taken prisoner by the Skrulls and studied individually. They were able to escape back to Earth.

Iron Man brought the Skrull body to the Illuminati meeting. Black Bolt, Iron Man, Doctor Strange, Namor, Mr. Fantastic, and Professor X were all present. Along with the afore mentioned techniques and powers that the Skrull was able to evade, Iron Man also noted that its Skrull origin was completely undetectable to his own technology. He also notes to the group that this infiltration may have been a result of what they had done to the Skrull Empire when they had initially formed. Before they could decide what to do Black Bolt reveals to the others that he was a Skrull and launches an attack. The Skrull Black Bolt uses Black Bolt's power against Namor and unleashes a powerful scream. Namor is able to kill the Skrull, but before the team can recover two more arrive. One seemingly has the powers of the X-Men's Colossus while the other is a copy of Thor. Doctor Strange is able to teleport the team to safety, and Iron Man blows up the remaining two Skrulls. Professor Xavier identified during the battle that the Skrull Black Bolt was also able undetected by Professor Xavier's telepathy. The team departs once again, not knowing who they can trust.

Invasion

Tony Stark has to figure out how to handle this secret invasion. He summons Meduse and Crystal and talks to them with the Black Bolt Skrull corspe in between. Medusa demands an explanation, Tony not knowing much about himself all he tells them is that an invasion is arrisong and problems will arrive. Medusa then takes the body and leaves to the moon.

Stark arranges for Mr. Fantastic and Hank Pym to study the Skrull-Electra body at a secret Stark Laboratory. He doesn't know who he can trust, even the Richards or Pym, and he must discover why the Skrulls are completely undetectable to psychics, technology, magic, and enhanced senses, and any other ability. Hank and Reed begin work to uncover the Skrull secrets.

Meanwhile on the SWORD satellite headquarters known as The Peak, commanding officer Dum Dum Dugan and recently arrived Agent Abigail Brand witness an unidentified Skrull transport spacecraft entering Earth's atmosphere and about to crash-land in the Savage Land. They contact Stark, who leaves Richards and Pym to work on the Skrull body to determine how they are both completely undetectable and able to copy the powers of Earth's superheroes. Stark flies off to locate the other members of the Mighty Avengers to investigate the crash site.

Susan Storm had been in Vancuver in a confrence. There she was suprised by her husband Reed. She later discovered that he was a Skrull and he was there to capture the Invisible Woman using powers like her.

Medusa arrives to the Inhumans with the Skrull corpse and suggests that the Inhumans take care of this matter. The Inhuman king raises the question of who can be trusted. Crystal then doubts if maybe Iron man was right about a war coming and problems arising.

While Stark is attempting to arrange for the Mighty Avengers to all meet for the flight, Spider-Woman contacts the Secret Avengers to let them know that they can get there before Stark can. Cage calls Cloak for a favor, and has him teleport the group to the Avengers tower to take the Avengers Quinjet. Only Black Widow was there at the time, and the team is easily able to take her down. With a mode of transportation, they fly for the Savage Land.

Once in the Savage Land, the Quinjet is damaged by a dinosaur, and crash lands in the top of a tree. The group exits and notices that the building where they had their first battle as the Avengers was destroyed. Next they come upon the crash-landed Skrull craft. Before they get a chance to open it, Iron Man and the Mighty Avengers arrive. In direct defiance to Stark's wishes, Cage rips the door off of the Skrull craft. A light on the craft turns from red to green, and Skrull sleeper agents around the world are activated.

On The Peak, Dugan's eyes glow green and he says "He loves you..." before he detonates the space station. From the Avengers Tower, Jarvis uploads a Skrull Virus into Stark's armor causing it to go haywire, and also says "He loves you...". Using Stark's extremis link to the world's satellite system, the virus takes control of the SHIELD Helicarrier which begins to go down. Systems in Stark enterprises plants, Stark satellites orbiting the planet, and the maximum security prison for superhumans known as The Raft are each compromised. Prisoners within The Raft are able to escape once again. Another maximum security penitentiary known as the The Cube is also under siege by its inmates. There is an explosion at Thunderbolts Mountain as someone who appears to be Captain Marvel arrives. At the public headquarters of the Fantastic Four, a skrull version of the Invisible Woman sets off a The Negative Zone gateway which sucks half of the tower into the Negative Zone.

Back in the savage land, individuals purporting to be several of Earth's superheroes emerge from the Skrull ship. These heroes were: Spider-Man, Luke Cage, Phoenix, Emma Frost, Beast, Mockingbird, Captain America, Hawkeye, Wolverine, Thor, Iron Man, Scarlet Witch, Ms. Marvel, Invisible Woman and Vision. Wanting to know who the members of the two teams of Avengers are. Back at the Stark Industries secret location, Reed Richards finally discovers the way that the Skrulls were able to make themselves undetectable. He is about to share this information with Hank Pym who takes out a Skrull weapon and fires at Richards, causing him to lose control of his elastic powers and sending his body all over the room. This Pym imposter changes into a Skrull and tells Richards that "He even loves you".

While in the Savage Land the heroes that came out of the ship and the Avengers (and Secret Avengers) face each other. Ares makes note that this is only to distract them but they still face off in an epic battle. While they all fight the Avenger Ms. Marvel took the injured Tony out of the battle field. The Sentry tries to talk to Vision but the Vision transforms into his "evil self" and blames him for these events. Ronin then takes Hawkeye's bow and arrow and shoots Beast, Emma Frost and tries to shoot Captain America but fails. Cap was able to shield his attack making Hawkeye doubt if he really is Steve Rogers. Then a T-Rex arrives into the scene and kills two of the Spider-Man and Hawkeye from the Skrull ship. Carol takes Shell Head to the base where the New Avengers first joined forces and Iron Man then said he was going to make another Iron Man suit from the material he had around and sent Danvers to the mainland. Luke Cage and Wolverine see the dead Spidey and conclude that all of the heroes from the ship are Skrulls. The they see Mockingbird crying over the death of the Hawkeye Skrull. She claimed to be the real thing and before Wolverine can hurt her Ronin stops him. He asks her what happened on October 12th. She answers: "I-I had a miscarriage. We didn't tell anyone. Me and my husband. We figured his birthday would have been October 12th". This proves to Clint that she is in fact the real deal. They kiss and Ronin tell Wolverine to trust him. Mockingbird mentions that she thinks that Captain America is also the real deal since he's the one who brought them back to earth.

The Invasion begins

Back in Manhattan the Young Avengers watch as the Baxter Building eats itself up. Then they spot a Skrull ship that sents down many skrulls that have heroes' (and villans') powers including armor that looks like Iron Man's.

In the Negative Zone part of the baxter building appeared. Johnny, Ben, Valeria and Franklin along with who appeared to be Sue were all there. Creatures from the N-Zone started attacking where the Thing, Franklin, and Valeria were at. Ben kept them safe from the "big bugs" and took them to a cupboard and told Franklin to take care of his sister. In Reed's lab Johnny and Sue debated on who was she. Johnny asked her what her favorite movie was and she got it wrong he knew something was wrong. Sue then turned into a Skrull and not just any Skrull but Johnny's ex, Lyja.

Skrull Jarvis appears on waters where the Hellicarrier fell to telling Captain Hill to surrender. Captain Marvel keeps fighting the Thunderbolts and Osborn tries to reason with him. The Young Avengers are now in the fight between all the Skrulls arriving to Manhattan while the Runaways are just arriving to the scene. An epic battle happens between the The Initiative and the Skrull armada. Yhe Initiative being led by Yellowjacket. Back in the Savage Land Tony is trying to create a new suit then Spider-Woman appears into the place where Tony's at after fighting and winning a fight whith Echo. She thanks Tony Stark for helping the Skrull Invasion be a success. She kisses him and tells Iron Man that he dosen't remember it but he is trained not to remeber him being a Kr'Ali Skrull Soldier and the love of the Queen everything from the Civil War and the invasion was planned.

In the Negative Zone Lyja and Johnny fight against each other into the N-Zone. Lyja gets caught by an N-Zone "squid" and Human Torch helps her. He kisses her reliving old times. Franklin and Val get out of their hidding place and go get a machine that their dad made for them for defense purposes. Ben keeps fighting N-Zone bugs and Franklin and Val help to fight. Johnny and Lyja fuse power together to free her making Lyja pass out. Back at the Baxter Building the four decide what to do then Franklin suggests that they get help from a prisoner from the N-Zone prison.

In Times Squere the battle keps going and during the fight Skrull soldiers destroy Vision while claiming that they wouldn't win. Then a Skrull was killed by Nick Fury.

The Howling Comandos and Nick Fury started killing every Skrull that could be see while back at the Savage Land Iron Man is trying to recover from the news of "Spider-Woman". Black Widow is listening to the whole conversation then Beast and Phoenix arrive and Widow kills them revealing them as Skrulls. Spider-Woman hears this and flees. Widow then tries to help Iron Man by giving him a shot of adrenaline. Wolverine arrives and Black Widow shoots him until she made sure it was him. She sents Logan to kill the Skrull queen while she help Tony up. He then agrees that eb=ven if he was a Skrull he wants to kill the Skrulls.

The Fantastic Four (Human Torch, Thing, Franklyn and Valeria) head to the N-Zone prison. On their way Val falls off the Fantasticar. Lyja then arrives and saves her claiming that she was there to help. Johnny stay back with Lyja while the rest go in to find the Thinkerer. Lyja explains that she was sent to kill them all but having her feelings involved she decided on taking them to the N-Zone. The Thing bust out Thinkerer after an agreement. He fixes the baxter and finds a way to get back. Lyja decides to stay back and the rest arrive to see the city destroyed.

Back in Times Square Fury keeps fighting and Ms. Marvel arrives to the scene to try and help. When the fight's over Fury shoots Ms. Marvel and they keep on fighting. Then a bolt of lightning shoot down from the sky, Thor arrives, and at the same time Captain America (Bucky) arrives.

In Asgard Thor is trying to deliver a baby when Beta Ray Bill arrived in crash land form. He told Thor that he was taken captive by Skrulls and then was sent there while them keeping his hammer.  Loki (Woman form) started then spreading mischief by questioning if that was Beta Ray Bill. Asgardians started to question if he was a Skrull. Thor proved his worth by letting him use Mjolnir. Then he went back to delivering the baby when Skrull ships arrived.

In San Fransisco Skrulls started their invasion but were surprised by the attack of the X-Men. During the whole comotion the Skrulls had to improvise on how to react with the X-Men and then attack back. All X-Men split up into teams around San Fran and defended the people. The Skrulls had then used a mechanisim that blocks off Psychic powers hurting Emma Frost. Nightcrawler then found an ancient Skrull bible that was held by a Skrull preist but he was then pursued by super powered Skrulls.

Medusa wonders at night of what could´ve happened to her husband and if he´s still alive then she sees a what seems to be Black Bolt at the window. She heads out and to her surprise a Skrull with some of the Inhumans powers takes her by the neck and hangs her out of the window.
Someplace else a Skrull smirks at how  they will use Black Bolts power in the war.

WW Philly: Secret Invasion Panel

Day 2 of CBR's live coverage at Wizard World Philadelphia begins with Marvel's writers and editors discussing "Secret Invasion" Saturday afternoon. Attending the panel are CB Cebulski, Tom Brevoort, Arune Singh, Joe Quesada, Brian Reed, Dan Slott, Fred van Lente, and Greg Pak..

Quesada began by saying that, contrary to some reports, "Secret Invasion" #3 will not ship late. It is in stores next week. He then showed a slide of "Secret Invasion #6.

September's "Iron Man Director of SHIELD" #33 will feature the return of War Machine, or at least a character who looks a lot like him.

Doug Braithwaite is Marvel's newest exclusive creator.

Where are the Kree in all this? "The Kree are in 'Annihilation: Conquest," Brevoort said, adding that they would also feature in "Guardians of the Galaxy."

"Secret Invasion: Inhumans" will address the Inhumans' reactions to the Skrulls, and is written by Joe Pokaski.

"Mighty Avengers" #17 would help explain when Elektra was replaced by a Skrull, Brevoort said.

The timelines for heroes being replaced "runs the gamut" Brevoort said, "from last week to several years." Reed added that some Skrulls did not entirely replace the heroes, but were only infiltrating to sow confusion.

Nick Fury is going to be "all over" "Secret Invasion," Brevoort said. "He's coming back in a big way."

"One of the things we're going to show in 'Avengers Initiative,' you're going to see two different kinds of Skrulls -- classic and new," Slott said, addressing why Skrulls can now have powers. Reed added that Super-Skrull "was the Model T. Now we're dealing with Lambourghinis."

"Probably if there are any Dark Phoenix revelations to be had," Brevoort said, "'Secret Invasion: X-Men' would probably be the place to look."

Will Bruce Banner/Red Hulk play a role? "I don't think the Red Hulk is involved in 'Secret Invasion' -- the green Hulk maybe," Brevoort said. And will we find out who Red Hulk is? "As soon as Jeph [Loeb] figures it out."

"We gave you a whole Skrull ship full of people" that may be "the real deal," Brevoort said, in response to a question about who other than Mockingbird may be returning from death or limbo.

Rehabilitating Jessica Drew after SI? "Aah," Quesada said knowingly. Brevoort said, "It depends on what state Jessica Drew is in at the end of 'Secret Invasion.'"

The next question drew laughs when a fan asked if the Skrull Spider-Man from the ship knew he was Peter Parker. Of course, everyone forgot Spidey's secret ID after "One More Day." "He probably looked in the mirror under the mask," Brevoort said. "He looked and said, 'Who the hell am I?'" Quesada quipped.

Sleeper agent Skrrulls are not aware that they're Skrulls, Brevoort said. "That's part of why they were so successful in fitting in."

"Runaways" will be affected by "Secret Invasion," particularly since Xavin was a Super-Skrull in training. This will show up in "Secret Invasion: Young Avengers/Runaways, a three issue series by Chris Yost and Takeshi Miyazawa.

Brevoort would not confirm that the Hawkeye who died in "Avengers Dissassembled" was a Skrull, because this might suggest things about the Clint Barton now appearing as Ronin. "Anything is possible," he said.

"The interesting thing about 'Secret Invasion,'" Quesada said, "is that we didn't know Brian [Michael Bendis] was doing it." He said that Bendis's pitch was that the story had already been seeded and was in progress. "That was the real 'Secret Invasion.'"

Pak talked a bit about "Sacred Invasion," the "Incredible Hercules" SI tie-in, in which the God Squad will be going after Skrull Gods. "There is a betrayer on the team, and there will be a betrayal," Pak said. The next arc will be called "Holy War," illustrated by Clayton Henry.

"Secret Invasion: Spider-Man" is "three issues about the entire cast of 'Brand New Day,' and what happens on the day of the Skrull invasion," Reed said.

"Spidey's going to be in the Avengers for the foreseeable future," Brevoort said.

Is the "Messiah Complex" baby a Skrull? "That would be a kick in the head, wouldn't it?" Brevoort added. The fan offered a potential storyline of what the scenario would look like.

Will villains become involved, on the side of humans or Skrulls? Brevoort said they will be getting involved, especially "characters who straddle the line, like Deadpool."

"Thunderbolts are definitely going to make an impact," Brevoort offered, "both in their own series and in the 'Secret Invasion' tie-in book." "Where they end up after the series will be kind of surprising, as well."

Singh said that fans of Bullseye should show up for this afternoon's Cup o'Joe panel.

"There are definitely big plans for the Hood going into next year," Brevoort said, but the plans do not involve his own series at this time.

Will non-Skrulls die because others thought they were imposters? "It would be a pretty good time for somebody who didn't like the way Norman [Osborne] was running the Thunderbolts to shoot him in the back of the head and say, whoops, thought he was a Skrull," Brevoort said.

Van Lente hinted that there may be some Skrull Eternals showing up in "Incredible Hercules."

"There will be some green-eyed related revelations," Pak said, asked about Athena's recent uncharacteristic green eyes. "She's always referred to as Grey-eyed Athena in myth, but maybe a goddess just wants a change."

More "Nextwave?" "When that creative team wants to get together again, we'll absolutely publish more 'Nextwave,'" Quesada said. He repeated that Warren Ellis did not want to do the series without Stuart Immonen, who is now busy with other projects including "Amazing Spider-Man."

Will we see a Secret Invasion Howard the Duck mini? "What do think the end of issue 3 is?" Reed joked.

There were many knowing glances and cautious words when asked if the Black Bolt who holds an Infinity Gem was a Skrull. "The answer to that may affect the story's end, or not," Brevoort offered.

There are no plans for a second Hulk series, but Pak took the opportunity to plug June's "Skaar Son of Hulk," which Quesada clarified is ongoing. "It's the buzz book in our office right now," the EIC said.

Both Nova and Guardians of the Galaxy will tie in to "Secret Invasion," Brevoort revealed.

The Quest of Hercules in space continues here.

Overview:

The God squad starts out their quest to find the Skrull Pantheon.  There is a slight problem they don’t know the way.  So Hercules decides to stop and ask directions.  So how does he go to?  They travel to, Nightmare master of dreams and all around somnambulant villain, for the answer.
Hercules starts out with reminiscing about his time with Jason and the Argo.  He even goes so far as to cast his motley crew in parallel roles. Casting Ajak as Orpheus, Atum as Pollux, Snowbird as Atalanta, and Mikaboshi as Pericymenus.  He refuses to call Amadeus Hylas, which leads to the foreshadowing of things to come.
Snowbird question Amadeus as they come upon Nightmare leading to a mutual Skrull accusation, which also gives us the name for Amadeus coyote pup, Kerberos.
Nightmare demands to know the fears of the gods in return for the location of the Skrull Pantheon.  Amadeus believes it is a trick and tries to dissuade Hercules.  Through the dreams Nightmare learns Hercules fears failure as a result of his afinity for humans and how it could call his failure.  Snowbird is revealed to be suffering from survivor’s guilt after Alpha Flight was killed.  Atum or Demogorge is revealed to fear that the universe will go on for eternity and he will never be allowed to feed fully.
**Spoiler**
Mikaboshi is revealed to be nothing but a shadow.  Hercules used his ability to fool Nightmare while Mikaboshi steals the maps.  Hercules is then awoken by Kerberos and proceeds to fight Nightmares creatures.  Atum then criticizes Hercules only to realize his plan.
The story ends with Hercules comforting Snowbird.  He is not alone however as a very sinister green-eyed Kerberos looks on.  He is sporting some kind of tech leading to the question is he a Skrull or is it Amadeus controlling him?

SECRET INVASION TIE-IN!

The Greek Goliath gathers the most powerful super-team ever assembled to counter-attack the Skrull gods! Face front, True Believers, and prepare for the pantheon-pounding premiere of... THE GOD SQUAD!

Spoilers

We open with a prologue where Urania, the muse of prophecy, discovers the truth of the Skrull invasion, which explains how Athena knows. Big A further explains that she, in her mortal disguise as an Atlas Corporation security consultant, tracked down a Skrull and killed it, and now has warned all the other Gods. The Skrull situation concerns them all because:

A) The Skrulls conquering Earth will lead to...

B) A power shift in the cosmos where the Earth gods will not be needed, leading to...

C) Demogorge the God-Eater eating them all.

Ergo, Athena proposes that they sent an army to kill the Skrull Gods, Kly'bn the Eternal Skrull and Sl'gur't of the Infinite Names. Herc, Athena says, will lead the army.

Herc is not happy about this, and kicks over a tree; Athena covers and says he's just anxious to kill some Skrulls.

Hodiak, the Inuit Skyfather, volunteers Snowbird; flashback intro shows Snowbird beating up Michael Pointer/Guardian, since he killed everyone; she tells that her marriage is over, Alpha Flight is dead, and until the Great Beasts return, she has little interest in the human world. Hodiak then appears and tells her she is needed (apparently Athena let everyone know in advance so that they can have their armies ready).

Back in the present, Herc is still freaking out, complaining about Athena manipulating him and not saying anything; Cho says it's not like he's never done this before; Herc says it's exactly like that: he was never the leader; real leaders inspire (Captain America) or "sweet-talk gold out of its luster" (Jason). Herc tries to get Amadeus to leave, saying Athena must have some plan for him, but he refuses.

The Incan Skyfather, on behalf of the Aztec/Mayan/Incan grouping, volunteers Ajak/Tecumotzin; flashback shows Ajak was working as a gardener before the Southern gods approached him, and agreed because he hopes to gain knowledge of the Celestials and their ways (since the Skrulls are the Deviant branch of their race, who killed the Eternal strain), to spite Makkari, who has usurped his place as interlocutor with the Dreaming Celestial.

The Japanese Skyfather, Izanagi-no-Mikoto, volunteers Amatsu-Mikaboshi (who is brought in chains), because he is a skilled shapeshifter, which would be useful. Herc and Athena are both very dubious (Athena's expression is priceless), Herc to the extent that he decides to thrash Amatsu instead. Ajak tries to stop Herc, but Herc punches him out; Snowbird steps in, and they spar briefly; she matches his moves, and he stops to compliment her, mentioning the time they fought Attuma together; Narya says he is still skilled, "the fact..heartens me." While they're talking, Mikaboshi has gotten up again and jumps at them; Ajak blasts him, and Amatsu falls on Snowbird. Herc grapples with Ajak while Snowbird (polar bear form) fights Amatsu.

Suddenly, Demogorge arrives, cackling at the gods squabbling amongst themselves. He reverts to his Atum form, and says he is here at the request of his son Horus; he uses a really, really awesome shepherd analogy to describe his reason for agreeing.

Altjira, the Australian Skyfather, volunteers a magic ship that will take them where they need to go, although he had been expecting a bigger complement; Athena agrees and complains that five guys isn't exactly what she had in mind. Anansi, the Spider-God from Africa (thank you, Gargoyles!), says that no one trusts Athena, since they assume she's got some other plan in the works, such as trying to seize on of their kingdoms for the Greeks while they're at the wars. He further wonders why they haven't brought the Asgardians in on this; Athena says the whole Ragnarok situation means she doesn't trust them; Anansi dismisses this, and says that Thor would make a superior leader for the team; Herc is annoyed at this, and jumps on the ship, saying that he will lead. Everybody else follows, but even as the ship starts to enter the Dreamtime (the realm it travels through), a Skrull invasion fleet arrives, headed for San Francisco. Herc wants to go back and fight them, but Athena (now, like all the other gods, a starry head) says it's too late. As she fades away, Athena warns Amadeus that Urania made a second prophecy: the gods' efforts will fail, unless Cho, when Herc is at his weakest, does the hardest thing he has ever had to do. Athena vanishes, leaving Cho wondering what that means.

Amatsu asks Hercules if Athena's eyes have always been green.

The issue begins with Hank giving a lecture on "Advanced Genetic Analysis" in the Sheldonian Theatre.  We jump to after his speech were he allows the many students watching to ask him questions.  One asks does Hank think that his adventures with the Avengers have changed the "course of [his] research".  He explains that he does think it did, and that anything can change everything, as tells the audience a story about Reed Richards, and when he once got an idea for a one of his biggest success from watching his son (Franklin Richards) play with building blocks, and he continues to talk about how the smallest things can affect their work.  He does this while staring at a blonde girl in the audience, who raises her hand next and asks why did the Avengers break up, to which  he smiles slightly and tells her that in his mind, they're just taking a break, and if they are needed he believes they will return.  The two then stare at each other.

In his office at home (we presume), Hank types away on a computer, and then here's a door crash behind him.  It's Wasp, Janet, and she tells him she's home, and he tells here that he's "in here".  She states that he's still up, and she tells him that she forgot where they lived, and he replies sarcastically, to which she says that they've only lived there a month, and he asks her, obviously angry, where she was, and she explains that she was with Tom Ford, a friend who she had dinner with, and Tom brought friends and they talked business, and then Hank points out to us that she is drunk.  She replies telling him she was out, and that she had a good time and she's sorry she has friends, and that she has to "shmooze a little" to get the business back up and running, while she enters the bathroom.  Hank asks her, well more demanded her to go to bed, and she shouts back, carrying a tooth brush and now in her under garments, that he was the one who wanted to move to England, and he repeats his earlier comment, adding that she is drunk, and then Janet pops her head around the door saying that she could have kissed someone, but she didn't.  Hank raises her voice, and tells her to go to bed, and she slams the door, questioning herself on why she didn't stay in New York, and after she leaves, Hank quietly asks "Why didn't you?"

Next morning, and it appears that Hank fell asleep at his desk, as he wakes up in his chair.  He calls for Janet, and walks to the bedroom to she that the bed is empty, and then he moves onto the closet, to see that all of Janet's clothes are gone.  He walks into the bathroom to see a not taped to the mirror, saying bye, to which Hank remarks "Classy."

Next, and we jump to Hank in bed with the blonde student from his lecture before (the one who was staring at him).  She asks can she ask him sothing, and he tells her to go ahead, and she asks "Aren't you married?", to which he replies that now she asks (presumably because they're in bed, naked, together, I think its safe to assume that they slept together).  She explains that she knows that he's married, but why did he sleep with her if he is.  He explains that he's seperated, and then they talk about that.  She then tells him that he's the oldest guy she's slept with, and Hank takes offence, telling her that he's not old, she then comforts him saying it wasn't an insult.  He asks does she have a roommate, which she tells him no while putting on a t-shirt that's to big for her, and then he asks does she have the internet, and she replies affirmative.  He then goes to tell her that she can't tell anyone, but before he can finish, she tells him that she won't.  She tells him that her mother would die if she saw her "canoodling" with anyone, and he appriciates that.  She then claims that he'll probably be going back to America, and he asks why she'd think that, and she shows him the laptop displaying a picture and article about the New Avengers, but he explains that they have nothing to do with him, as it was another life, and he intends to work on his research there in England.  She confirms this by asking if he's staying to which he replies yes, and he asks her out to dinner, and she accepts, excited as she has a "billion questions".

The next page shows the two doing various things together, eating out at a restaurant, the two in a kitchen and Hank making coffee, the two taking a stroll, the two coming out of a shop and then in a bar, and she is asking a different question in every different situation.  The last panel of this page then shows her asking about the Kree-Skrull war, and then we see that the two are sitting on a bed, her naked and Hank in his underwear, Hank also with a tub of ice cream, the two with spoons, and Hank going to feed her.  He tells her that's going back, and she asks if it was real, to which he replies yes.  She tells him that her brother constantly visits conspiracy websites and stuff, and Hank then tells her that from his experience, most conspiracies are true.  He then tells her about the Kree, and about that they're noble, and that "we" will most probably be like them in ten thousand years.  He asks if she knows who Captain Marvel is, and continues on telling her that he's a Kree, and then she asks about Skrulls.  He says its going to bother her, but he tells her that they're shapeshifters

Overview

The invasion has started, and no one in the MU is safe, not even the First Family of Comicdom! Aware that some of the Earth's most advanced technology and weaponry is housed in the Baxter Building, the Skrulls have neutralized the building--by transporting it and its inhabitants straight to the Negative Zone! With one member of the Fantastic Four M.I.A. and another "replaced," it's up to the remaining family members--not to mention Franklin and Val—to get back to our dimension, Skrulls or no Skrulls. But are any of our heroes who they think they are?

Spoilers

In Canada, Sue Richards is on a lecture tour. She calls home to check on how the kids are doing. Johnny says they're fine but Reed's disappeared somewhere with a look of determination. As she arrives in her hotel room, she surprisingly finds Reed waiting for her on her bed. He says he's there to be more romantic. Sue jokingly asks him who he is and what has he done with her husband. Reed then turns into a Skrull and grabs her with what appears to be invisible powers. The Skrull tells here that there is an invisible force-field pressing on her cerebellum. She struggles to ask where Reed is. The Skrull says he's already fallen as will the rest of her family and the world. She struggles against the Skrull and passes out.

Later at the Baxter Building, it seems that Sue has returned and walks past Johnny and the kids. A Skrull is impersonating Sue and is on a mission. The Skrull heads to Reed's lab in order to send Reed's technology away to the Negative Zone so that it can't be used against them.

Johnny tries to see what Sue's done while Ben grabs the kids. Johnny enters the lab just as the portal is swallowing everything in front of it. "Sue" looks at him as says, "Forgive me, Johnny."

In the living room, Ben opens the curtains to find they are no longer in Manhattan but appear to be in the Negative Zone. Soon giant bug like creatures begin attack the glass, causing it to crack. Ben grabs the kids again just as they begin breaking through.

Johnny begins to regain consciousness and Sue is there by his side. Seeing her, he flames on immediately. She asks him to flame down and tells him they are in the middle of a Skrull invasion. She tells him that every team has been infiltrated. Reed sent her to secure the Baxter Building. He asks her why she was so sneaky about it. She tells him that they may have already been compromised and insinuates that Ben is an imposter.

Meanwhile Ben is in the kitchen and secures the kids in a cabinet. He tells Franklin to watch his sister. Closing the door, he tells them not to come out until he says so. Behind him is a swarm of the alien insects.

Johnny stands in front of his sister thinking over what she's saying. She asks him to say something. When he says he's thinking, she points out that that isn't his area of expertise. He asks her what her favorite movie is. Sue rolls her eyes but Johnny insists she answer. She answers wrong so Johnny flames on again. He asks her why she brought them there. She points out it was a trap and again mentions his lack of intelligence. Johnny starts thinking about the way she's been talking to him and saying his name. The Skrull reverts and reveals that she is...Lyja, Johnny's ex (that posed as Alicia waaaaay back and married him).

This important chapter rewinds the events of the very first New Avengers story and shows how it connects to the Invasion.

spoilers

SYNOPSIS ASSEMBLE!

  • The Mighty Avengers and the New Avengers face off against the heroes, assuming that the newcomers are in fact Skrull imposters. The battle is chaotic, and before either side can gain the upper hand, things are thrown into further disarray when a huge Tyrannosaur stomps his way into the battle…

RUMBLE IN THE JUNGLE!

  • The heroes and the imposters scatter, trying to avoid the crazed dinosaur. Spider-Man jumps atop the T-Rex, hoping to gain better position. All he gains, though, is a quick way out of the fight…

EXIT STRATEGY

  • He lands some distance away from the battle, and as he rises to his feet, he finds that he is not alone…

  • Ka-Zar, the so called Lord of the Savage Land, and his wife Shanna lead a group of Savage Land tribesman. They explain to Spider-Man that they are under siege and that they are fighting for their lives.

  • Spider-Man thinks they might be more Skrulls in disguise, and isn't sure he can trust them. Ka-Zar does his best to explain what has happened to them over the past few months.

  • He tells Spider-Man that they found out that SHIELD was harvesting the natural vibranium found in the Savage Land. They discovered the operation even before the Avengers did, back when the Captain America and Iron Man first brought the New Avengers together.

  • Not believing that Nick Fury would allow this to happen, Ka-Zar was determined to find out what was going on. He and Shanna captured a SHIELD sentry…and Shanna accidentally killed her trying to keep her silent.

  • Upon the SHIELD Agent's death, they were shocked to see her body transform into that of a Skrull. Even more baffled by what this could all mean, they decided there was only one way to get some answers…

SHANNA: AGENT OF S.H.I.E.L.D.?!?!

  • Dressed in the stolen SHIELD uniform, Shanna tried to find out what was going on. She was soon discovered by the group's leader, and had to fight her way out. She and Ka-Zar managed to escape, and that is when they rallied the tribesmen to their cause.

  • They then set out to put a stop to the Vibranium mining…only to discover the New Avengers had arrived on the scene, and were attacked by SHIELD. Had it not been for Iron Man, the New Avengers would not have lasted long.

  • Spider-Man remembers all this, of course, from his first adventure with the New Avengers. He explains to Ka-Zar that they never managed to find out the reason behind the attack…just that Captain America, before he died, believed that there was a rogue element in SHIELD that wanted the Avengers dead for some reason. Spidey then says that he isn't buying Ka-Zar's story…but before Ka-Zar can really refute Spider-Man's accusation, they are interrupted by a new arrival…

SECRET INVASION TIE-IN!

Very special guest artist Jimmy Cheung returns to the pages of New Avengers for this very important tie-in issue. Spinning right off of events in NEW AVENGERS: ILLUMINATI #1, find out exactly how the Skrull empire was able to infiltrate the Marvel Universe and who instigated the invasion and why.

SPOILERS!

On the Skrull world Satrianni, Princess Veranke stood against King Dorrek VII. She claimed the words of the prophets predict the destruction of their homeworld by a devourer or worlds. Dorrek said they were merely children's stories and had her removed.

Dro'Ge, the Royal Priest of the Sciences for the Skrulls. Dro'Ge proposed to King Dorrek VII that they conduct experiments with the samples taken from the members of the Illuminati when they were held captive by them and attempt to reverse engineer the DNA. Dro'Ge says it will take time. Dorrek agrees and tells Dro'Ge that he will only report back to him.

Princess Veranke is dropped off on a barren world since it would not be in King Dorrek's best interest to hold her captive or have her killed. She bows to the ground and says "He Loves Me..." over and over.

Experiments continue and the Skrulls seem able to create a clone of Mr. Fantastic. Dorrek become sickened upon its site since the real Reed Richards had turned a member of his family into a cow.

Years later, it seemed the prophecies came true when Galactus arrived and consumed the Skrull Throneworld.

Some years after that, Veranke was sought out since the throneworld had been destroyed and the Skrull armada was virtually wiped out. She was found on a barren planet living alone in a cave. Calling her their Queen, Veranke journeyed to the Skrull world Satriani.

Speaking to her people, she talks about how she knew that their destruction had been foretold in the scriptures. She also knows that they will survive and will have a sacred home. The scriptures call their home "Earth."

She was soon told about the breakthrough by royal scientist, Dro'Ge. After they had obtained samples of members of the Earth team, the Illuminati, he was able to gather more data on human evolution than is even known on Earth. They can now strip away the basics of human, mutant, or Inhuman DNA, replicate it, and use it to create a new model of Super-Skrull warriors.

Dro'Ge brings in a Skrull that has been posing as Elektra for "the last cycle." She informs Queen Veranke that she has interacted with Nick Fury, Daredevil, Wolverine, and the Hand. Through all those meetings, her true nature was never suspect. She tells her that because of Elektra's mysterious ways, she isn't really close to anyone and so could go about without drawing suspicion to herself. Dro'Ge has compiled a list of other suitable candidates.

Upon hearing of this plan to infiltrate Earth, Veranke says she will be joining the invasion force. She says that since she was banished from the Empire for years, she insists that she will be leading this invasion. She asks Dro'Ge which Earthling she could pose as to create the most amount of damage and Dro'Ge presents her with an image of...Spider-Woman!

SECRET INVASION TIE-IN!

The Eisner-award-winning team of Brian Bendis and Alex Maleev (NEW AVENGERS ILLUMINATI, HALO: UPRISING) reunite to answer the question that has been on every comic fan's mind for years...WHERE THE HELL HAS NICK FURY BEEN?? Rewinding the clock to Fury's time in SECRET WAR, follow Fury as he puts together the pieces of his life and starts finding clues to a Secret Invasion that makes him TARGET NUMBER ONE. A major Skrull reveal happens in these pages!

Spoilers!

Flashback to several months ago. During the "Secret War," the heroes discover that the Nick Fury they were working with was an L.M.D. (Life Model Decoy). Nick's voice tells them that they are true heroes and they will never see him again. Nick watches through television monitors in his hidden bunker.

A month later, Nick and the Countess Valentina Allegra Defontaine are enjoying their time together alone, away from S.H.I.E.L.D. Nick figures that maybe they'll just live happily ever after. The next morning, the Countess decides she's going out to get Nick breakfast in bed.

Nick gets up and activates an invisibility device to follow her. She meets with a strange man in an alley. He asks her if she "got them." She says she'll need at least a week. The man wants the S.H.I.E.L.D. passcodes and Fury eliminated.

When she returns to their place, Nick is sitting in a chair waiting with a gun. He asks her who she really is. She tells him he's acting crazy. She continues to refuse to answer his question and Nick shoots her in the head. Green blood emerges and Nick is left staring down at the dead body of a Skrull.

Later he stands on top of the building across from his place and watches with his invisibility device on. He has monitoring devices in place and the language of the men that arrive in the room to claim the body are speaking in the Skrull language.

Two weeks later on the S.H.I.E.L.D. helicarrier, Nick is using a computer in Maria Hill's room as she sleeps. She wakes up with a start. He says he has two things to tell her. He says she is not safe. She is surrounded by people who are out to get her. He tells her to have several life model decoys made of herself and to use them whenever she feels something strange is going down. The second thing he tells her is that he will be watching over her. He says to remember this, unless she is already "one of them." He jumps off the helicarrier.

Two months later Fury meets with Spider-Woman. He wants her to get back into the good graces of S.H.I.E.L.D. Basically now she will be a triple agent working with him for the sake of mankind. He tells her about the Skrulls. She asks him what he's going to be doing. He says he'll be getting ready. When the Skrulls make their move, he'll be ready to deal with them.

Spoilers

Six months ago in Oregon, Daisy Johnson is approached by a man that looks a bit like Samuel L. Jackson, but wearing an eye patch. She mentions that he reminds her of Nick Fury, who used to run S.H.I.E.L.D. She mentions how he had once come to here and asked if she wanted to save the world in his "Secret War." That cost him his job and she was forced into mandatory S.H.I.E.L.D. retirement. Nick tells her that he got her from, what he called, his Caterpillar Files. Those are files he keeps on kids that have the potential to become something big. No one else in the government knows about those files. He tells Daisy that he wants her to help gather the other Caterpillars. She asks why he needs this team. Nick replies that it's because no one knows them. They can be trusted. Daisy agrees.

First stop is the Bronx. Daisy finds Alexander, Ares, the God of War's son. She finds him "scaring the holy hell" out of some bullies just by looking at them. She refers to him as Phobos, God of Fear. She says he has the power of a god in the body of a ten year old. Alexander seems enlightened by this.

In Puerto Rico, a street thug grabs the purse of a young lady. She runs after him and suddenly finds she has ran past him and ended up in another part of Puerto Rico. Just as suddenly, she is pulled back like a ricochet. Standing there waiting, Daisy greets Yo Yo Rodriguez. Her father was the Griffin. Yo Yo asks Daisy if that means she's a mutant and Daisy says no. She can take her to someone that can help her.

In Atlanta, Georgia, at a convenience store, Daisy watches as a punk steals some stuff and the clerk simply sits back. She asks him why he let the guy steal stuff. He says she did too. He says what he's paid isn't worth risking his life. She mentions the fact that he has powers. Surprised she knew, J.T. Slade takes her out back to show her what he can do. He was out at a club with a girl and her brother came at him with a chain. He caught it out of reflex and somehow charged it up in flames. He asks Daisy if she saw him do it. She tells him no but that he's the grandson of the original Ghost Rider (Phantom Rider). After asking if she's from Hydra or S.H.I.E.L.D. he agrees to go with her, more in the hopes of making some money.

Later she visits X-Factor Investigations in search of Layla Miller. Layla knew she was coming and says she can't go with her. She is needed somewhere else. She tells Daisy that she will survive but may lose a lot before she becomes "one of the greats."

Outside the boarded up Sanctum Sanctorium of Dr. Strange, a young man stands staring in the rain. Daisy says she just left Hawaii looking for him. The man is desperate and wonders if this is a test of Dr. Strange's. He has connections to the magics and doesn't understand how they work. All he has is a book left to him by his father, Dr. Druid, but he can't read the language. Daisy tells him it's not a matter of magic, he has monster DNA but knows someone that can help him. The man is overjoyed.

In Minneapolis, Minnesota, a man is bailed out of jail. Daisy tells him that within a day his record won't even exist anymore. He says the whole thing wasn't his fault and goes with her.

In one of Nick Fury's safehouses, the Caterpillars are all gathered. Fury tells them that every day for the rest of their lives they will do as he says. If they don't, they will die. He doesn't mean it as a threat but a fact. They will begin their training. He asks them if any of them knows what a Skrull is.

Overview

Who is the target of the next Skrull outing? The hunt for the wrinkly chinned space invaders continues and Sentry may be next on the list.

A continuing enigma to the Marvel Universe, Sentry’s fragile mental state makes him a ticking time bomb, leaving everyone around him in constant danger. In the Sentry’s darkest hour, one could only expect an appearance from his arch-nemesis, The Void…but how does this tie into the Skrull invasion?

Spoilers

Years ago the Sentry is flying over New York when he comes across a robbery in progress. To his surprise and dismay, he finds that the Void is leading a bunch of thugs in the crime. The men start shooting at him as Sentry lifts a taxi cab over his head to throw at the Void when they are all distracted by a bright light in the sky. Sentry recognizes that the ship flying by is not human and leaves the Void to investigate.

The ship is heading straight towards Manhattan. More specifically it's heading straight for the Baxter Building. Sentry gets in front of it and notices the green-skinned aliens on board. He manages to stop the ship and pull it back out into space. He rips open the hull to ask them what they are after. The aliens appear to be meditating when the entire ship explodes. Sentry comes to inside the Baxter Building. Reed Richards tells him they caught him after the explosion and brought him there. Reed tells him that those were Skrulls out to get them.

Some months ago at the Avengers Tower, the "New" Avengers are enjoying some refreshments after an apparently successful mission. "Jarvis" approaches Tony Stark and asks for permission to access Sentry's file. He says that after the Scarlet Witch had her break down, he felt he could have done something before. He just wants to be sure if there's anything he should know that could help him serve them better. Tony tells him that Wanda's break down wasn't his fault and he has complete access to the files whenever he wants them.

Later, "Jarvis" meets with the Empress and some other SKrulls that are preparing to do their infiltration. He tells them that their best bet with Sentry to leave him be. He's so unstable that he's about to lose it any time now. He also mentions that they don't know his full potential so getting too close could be dangerous as they don't know if he'll be able to detect them. They figure the perfect targets to get close to him would be either his wife or his therapist. It seems that they're going to go with his therapist. "Jarvis" then mentions the Void. He tells them that all they need to do is shape-change into the Void to further rattle his sanity. They just need to say that it's all his fault and the only way to stop everything is to throw himself into the sun.

In the present, in the Savage Land, the battle is underway with the heroes/Skrulls that emerged out of the wrecked spaceship. The Skrull posing as Vision tells Sentry that he's the Void and it's all his fault. Sentry loses it, starts crying again and flies out into space. He curls up into a little ball and embraces the darkness.

In Times Square, the Young Avengers are trying to fend off the attacking Skrulls. In the Avengers Tower, Lindy Reynolds is awaken by the Cloc. It tells her that they are under attack. Her room is smashed open and a super-Skrull stands before her. It speaks to her in an alien language. She asks it if it knows who her husband is and where they're at. She says that her husband will kill him if he even touches her. A figure zooms in and starts fighting the Skrull. Lindy can't see who it is but finally the Skrull is taken care of. She asks the person who they are and surprised to see her husband covered in darkness. It tells her that Bob couldn't handle things and ran away. She's safe now that he's there. It reaches to embrace her and Lindy, trying to fight back the tears, has no choice but to allow it.

SECRET INVASION TIE-IN!

The Skrull Invasion isn’t restricted to the US. When the Skrull Invasion hits England, only Captain Britain and MI: 13 stand in their way. Can they find out what the Skrulls are after before it’s too late?

SPOILERS

A task force to combat the weird and wild across Great Britain was put together with the mutant Pete Wisdom as its leader. The fought angry fairies, giants, dragons, and army of Rippers (as in "Jack The...") and even H.G. Wells War of the Worlds martians...basically, sh— got crazy (go check out Captain Britain and MI 13 scribe Paul Cornell's Marvel Max Wisdom for the whole rundown. You won't be sorry, 'cause it was supremely awesome!).

And while all that is really handy to know, all you really need to know to begin this series is that one member of Wisdom's team is a known Skrull who's served in MI 13 for years, and usually shape-shifts to look like John Lennon...

Things are going just as poorly for the heroes on the other side of the pond as the Skrull John Lennon finds himself chained in an MI 13 holding cell. The Joint Intelligence Committee Chair comes down to see why he hasn't been executed, gets yelled at angrily by John about how he killed the other three Skrull Beatles.

The soldiers guarding John have received conflicting orders about killing the Skrull and when the Joint Chair steps up to pop a cap in his Skrully Beatle ass, Pete Wisdom makes his entrance...

After offing the bad Skrull and saving the good one, Wisdom informs John that the British forces aren't doing so well as the scene cuts to Captain Britain fighting a Champions-themed Super Skrull.

Cap lays the hurt down on the Skrull before the armada moves off and he's summoned to a meeting to discuss an operative against the Skrulls.

Below Captain Britain's sky battle, a young doctor named Faiza Hussain is yammering on and on about how she loves British superheroes (who doesn't, right?!) when a Skrull-piloted robot appears behind her ready to do some zapping. Luckily, she's rescued in a timely manner by none other than...

Saving accomplished, the Black Knight chats with Faiza. She gets a bit starstruck, he gets a bit flippant (hey, it's how he keeps the Ebony Blade in check!) before heading off to slice more Skrulls. Meanwhile, Captain Britain, Pete Wisdom and the Skrull John Lennon are being addressed by the Prime Minister who explains that all British superheroes now work for MI 13 (kinda like Bond works for MI 6, but these blokes have way more super powers so they work for MI 13). The group is discussing the Skrulls' movements when Captain Britain points out they're heading for the Siege Perilous: the gateway to Otherworld! To Avalon (Yes! That Avalon from Arthurian Legend!)! Where Cap first got his powers! Skrull John points out these extremist Skrulls are all about the wanting and Wisdom points out that what Britain has more of than anything else is magic...which is exactly what the Skrulls are after. The Prime Minister tells the three that they'll head off the Skrulls accompanied by another British hero because if the Skrulls get Avalon's magic, they could rule the world. The other hero, well, we'll let this spread speak for itself with her introduction...

On the way to intercept the Skrulls, Wisdom and Captain Britain are chatting about chain of command for their group, when Brian reveals his goal for a new direction in life...

Pete reveals he's been hearing voices about a hero he thinks are about Cap, and Cap's so glad to hear that one of their lot may be receiving visions that he's even more ready to follow Wisdom's lead—as the P.M. put him in charge of the group.

Back on the war torn streets, Faiza's aiding some inured civilians when a Skrull laser pops out of the ground. Black Knight dispatches quickly, but not quickly enough to save faiza who's been fried.

Back at the Seige Perilous, the MI 13 heroes arrive to a Skrull welcoming commitee and decide it's time to put a little English on it...

Skrulls dispatched, the group realizes that the green meanies didn't want to capture the magic, they want to destroy! Spitfire and Cap speed Wisdom and John to safety, before Cap heads back to intercept the Skrull missile, but doesn't look like he quite pulls it off...

While skrulls keep appearing all over the world, New York is in the front line of the Invasion.

It’s Science Fiction versus Fantasy as the war machines of the unstoppable Skrull army invade the magical realm of Avalon. Can Pete Wisdom and the rest of MI 13 keep the Skrulls from taking control of the world’s magic? Will this be our heroes’ finest hour? Or has the sun finally set on the British Isles? And what is Spitfire doing to that Skrull on the cover?

Johnny Storm vs her former love, Lyja, the Skrull Warrior. Trapped in the negative zone with Franklin and Val, Ben and Johnny will have to overcome the odds if the Fantastic Four will have any chance of survival

 Spoilers

Wha' happen?
Johnny Storm recounts old flames from his past—and we're talking ladies, not superpowers. From Hannah Henrickson to Namorita, Johnny's put a lot of notches in his belt over the years. Not the least of which is Lyja, his former Skrull wife, standing before him now with a taste for Fantastic flesh. She's not surprised that Johnny is in disbelief—he was never one to think much about others. Johnny and Lyja take their argument to the next level (quite literally) as their fight goes airborne.
