I am...The Watcher. In most universes, Sandman and Venom are two villains who plague Spider-Man. Each have put him through worlds of pain, and both have sought paths of redemption. But that was those universes, this one is different.
Flint Marko grew up in Queens, the only child of a dysfunctional family. Father hit then left, mother dove into the bottle. Flint realised life was hard from a young age. School was no better where Flint was bullied mercilessly but when puberty hit, it gave Flint a chance to hit back. Flint filled out and turned the tables on his tormentors, and then became the leader of gang that ran the school and also the neighbourhood. It was petty crime to start but soon escalated into car theft, robbery, assault, and drug dealing.
In high school, the football coach told Flint he’d never amount to anything and being a sixteen-year-old street hood, Flint hit him. The punch shocked the coach but not as much as the torrent of blows that followed sending the middle aged man into a coma. Flint would’ve possibly gotten away with it except he stole the man’s wallet and that landed him in jail when the police investigated.
Prison became a revolving door. Flint would get caught, serve his time, come out, then the cycle would repeat. Each time he’d get harder in both attitude and outlook. Flint was taken down during an armed robbery when he was again captured, and this time sent away for thirty-five years. The realization that he’d get out of prison when he was 60 made Flint desperate and he escaped Ryker’s Island in a daring escape.
On the run, Flint fled to Our Lady Of Saints Church in Alphabet City, throwing a man who was about to enter down the stairs and locking the door behind him. In other universes, this man was Eddie Brock who was about to change his entire life. In this one, he hangs himself due to the stress of being found out on faking a news story.
Inside Flint hid in the confessional booth and it was here that the scorned black alien suit of Spider-Man had fled after Peter had tried to kill it with the sound of the church's bells. The angry symbiote enveloped the criminal, and the pair bonded. The black ooze permeating every pore and fibre of Flint’s being, each learning intimately about each other as they transformed into one.
In this universe, Venom has no redeeming qualities and is a threat like Spider-Man has never faced
