For me:
- Joker
- The Dark Knight
- Captain America: The Winter Soldier
- Avengers: Infinity War
- Avengers: Endgame
- Watchmen
- X-Men: Days of Future Past
- Logan
- Captain America: Civil War
- Spider-Man 2
For me:
@richubs: Respectable list ^^, I agree with everything you said here.
You really think these movies are masterpieces? I guess everyone has their own definition of that word.
Clearly. Surely you must have one?
Masterpiece compared to what?
In general.

IMO only Joker and TDK

Nice, agree with those two.
@scholomance: I still think The Dark Knight Rises is a better film than most of those listed and arguably even better than TDK even if I prefer TDK, I can see people still liking TDKR over TDK.

IMO Bane was underwritten, I felt Nolan was trying to capture Ledger's Joker in Bane, but his overall character didn't stick out, don't get me wrong Bane was a good villain, but overall as a villain, IMO Bane was underwhelming.
@scholomance: Bane is still remembered and was an excellent villain, in my opinion and some he’s still in the top 10. He couldn’t replicate Ledger acting and Two-Face because it’s a way different movie and type of charachter. Instead of making it a dumb Hulk or Venom, they made him a great and menacing villain. Imo, I can agree a bit on your stuff since Nolan added the Talia Twist for connecting it to BB, I think it wasn’t needed but still ok. It did remove some stakes but Bane was still the planner and the one who did everything, for his motivations AND for helping Talia, that’s how I interpret and that was the situation.
You don’t think TDKR > Civil War and Watchmen?

Yes, majority of people will agree with you, but for me, Bane was underwhelming.
IMO, TDKR is more comparable to Logan. Both are excellent finales in their respective franchises.
@scholomance: Agree to disagree. Your same opinion is mine in MCU Thanos, I don’t see this great villain and his plan hardly makes sense but I am respecting other people opinion and I like IW, so everyone has different takes =)
I agree here, personally I think TDKR stands out better but Logan is definitely in the same tier, some people have overrated Logan as Unforgiven or Good Bad And Ugly level and some thinks it’s worse than Civil War and Endgame but imo TDKR/Joker tier is the right one.
I guess it depend on your own definition of master piece. If its a classic movie that will hold up and continue to be an excellent film,I say
GOTG- yeah its a comedy, but it does not change the fact that its entertaining with memorable characters. Its just an entertaining space movie that I would not mind going back from time to time.
Joker-mental illness and period 70's piece with an amazing performance from Phoenix. Yes it is just taxi driver and king of comedy, but hey Two great movie combined into one, awesome.
Logan- A bit hesitant to put this here, but the acting was great and gory violence. Plus a tragic death that is actually tragic in a comic book movie and not cheap plot device.
The Dark Knight- been more than ten years and people still consider it a masterpiece, yep definetely deserve the title.
I would say Watchmen but the good version is three hour long. Also Spiderman into the spiverse its a maybe. The thing with cgi, in ten years it look outdated. I love Incredible, but yeah the animation has not age that well.
Not any that I've seen.
Definitely not TDK
Have yet to see the Joker.
The ones I'd put closest to such title would be V and maybe Logan, but both are a long ways from it.
Nothing from the MCU is remotely a masterpiece.
TDK(not a fan of the film but it's at that lvl) and Joker
@emperorb777: I personally disagree, I’d have to arguably say the Winter Soldier and maybe Infinity War.
@jaylinfreeman: Its fine if you personally don't agree, there still aren't any masterpiece films in the MCU.
In no particular order:
Spider-Man 2
V for Vendetta
300
Kingsman: The Secret Service
The Dark Knight
Batman Returns
Captain America: The Winter Soldier
Guardians of the Galaxy
Iron Man
Avengers
(maybe) Watchmen
(maybe) Logan
I'm gonna assume that these will be added to the list once I watch them:
Into the Spiderverse
Joker
TDK, Joker and maybe just maybe TDKR.
There are good films but none of the DCEU, FOX, or MCU movies are masterpieces. Let’s not play.
I feel like "masterpiece" might be a bit of a reach, but if there were any CBMs that an argument could be made for, it would be The Dark Knight and Logan. If those aren't masterpieces, then they're as close as any CBMs have gotten.
In the next tier down would be Avengers: Infinity War, The Dark Knight Rises, Captain America: The Winter Soldier, and X-Men: Days of Future Past. There are plenty of other really good (and also some really overrated...Joker and Watchmen) CBMs out there, but they don't belong anywhere near a "Masterpiece" discussion.
As far as animated CBMs, I'd say Batman: Mask of the Phantasm, and The Incredibles (though technically not a CBM). The next tier down would be Batman: Under the Red Hood, Batman: The Dark Knight Returns, Justice League: The Flashpoint Paradox, and Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse.
None.
Burton's Batman movies come the closest to being masterpieces, but even those films I wouldn't quite say are masterpieces. I would probably nominate Beetlejuice or Edward Scissorhands out of his filmography.
the problem is that most directors who make CBMs are not masters of film so they can't very well have a masterpiece.
For me:
Major update.
The rest are all still amazing.
None. A cinematic “masterpiece” has to hold up over an extended length of time. Furthermore, they have to push film as an art form forward in a lasting way or affect change outside of film in society. The art direction, music, cinematography have to be expressive in a unique (for their time) way. Most movies, even Oscar winners, are not “masterpieces”. A film can be fantastic, but still not be a masterpiece. It’s no different in music or painting.
