Got in a pointless argument with my grandmother about. I believe Basketball is more dangerous based on statistics. Most people from experience say most of their injuries come from Basketball.
Is Football more dangerous than Basketball?
How is this even worth a topic?
Of course Football is more dangerous - if we're talking about the gridiron version that is.
Serious life altering injuries are far more common in football, it isn't even close.
That's what is great about Football ... It's an American gladiatorial struggle
Football is much more dangerous, believe me. I played a year and it was terrible for my head. I'd have headaches everyday at practice. It's much much easier to get injured and it's very risky. There's defensive players whose job and goals are to hurt players on offense. Does that happen in basketball? I've played pickup games of basketball for hours and it's not even comparable.

What in the world does this have to do with political correctness?

The fact its impossible for a Safety nowadays to lay a hit on a receiver
@cgoodness: They still get hit.

Your ignorance is showing.
@lunacyde: Ignorance because you disagree?!??
@lunacyde: Ignorance because you disagree?!??
Ignorance because he's flat-out wrong and clearly is speaking from a position of ignorance. This isn't an opinion, its fact, football is a dangerous game and the crippling disability associated with playing it at higher levels is well documented in the scientific community. To this day, right now there are crushing hits that can cripple people going on in the NFL and college football and the rules that have been put in place to protect players are necessary because a lot of these players have had to live with serious ramifications from their playing days. You don't know how violent of a game it is unless you've played at that level. As someone who played college level football and had to quit because of brain injury I can simply tell that he has no idea what he's talking about.
@lunacyde: I wasn't aware that you guys were forced to play football,I merely thought it was a choice.
Like how soldiers and police officer volunteer.
There's some Old School players who knew the risks and have said so.
It seems like former players want to blame the game for their injuries.

It is a choice. What does it being a choice have to do with it being a dangerous sport? Whether it is a choice or not does not change the high level of risk associated with it.
@noone301994: No they aren't unless you're saying on average
@kgb725: I am, but I would assume that even the worst football injuries are more serious than the worst basketball ones.
@noone301994: People have died on the court and have been paralyzed as well and many players have had t retire from neck injuries
@noone301994: No they aren't unless you're saying on average.
More kids are treated yearly for football injuries than basketball injuries according to John Hopkins University.
Again, according to American Sports Data there are more injuries per 100 players in football when compared to basketball.
WebMD cites two more studies, one done by The American Journal of Sports Medicine, that also find that football leads in sports injuries.
Here's another website that analyzes the Consumer Product Safety Commission’s National Electronic Injury Surveillance System, and once again finds football is the most dangerous sport.
Among purely college athletes this trend still holds true according to Livestrong.com
So yes, if you are saying it's possible for basketball players to be injured as badly as football players sure it's possible, but the likelihood is ridiculously small when you compare it to football overall.
Football injuries are more serious than Basketball ones. This is a quality vs. quantity argument.
Generally, yeah. You won't believe the severity of concussions and the amount from High School and College football alone.
Also
LAL @ the uneducated posts in this thread.

@cgoodness: I watch football most Sundays and I see people getting KO'ed in Football. Watch that video I posted most of it is recent.

Maybe injuries caused by basketball is due to the physicality of the athletes? Without looking into it, I can see how joints (knees especially) would be an area constantly being injured due to the repetitive jumping and the already compromised joints due to wayabovenormal heights of the players. I know getting bumped and jostled during basketball and injuries caused thereby is a thing, but I'd say injuries are more along the lines of non contact. Running, stopping abruptly and turning and pivoting, etc. All very harsh and brutal on the knees, ankles and such.
But, seriously, you don't need to be a sport physiotherapist to determine what is more dangerous as a sport. Football is all hard contact. Full contact. Non stop contact. Smash, grab, throw, jump on contact. Far more dangerous and brutal and destructive on the human body, no matter how built you are, than most sports.
Because Comicvine is an American based site, Ametican football is just referred to as Football, and the European version is widely referred to as soccer? Because of this I usually say gridiron football to avoid confusion since everyone isn't from America and vise-versa.
Why are people assuming that I am referring to American football? That's not even football.
Maybe you should be more specific.
