Wealthy Gotham citizen Henry Claridge was targeted by the Joker, who made a radio announcement that Claridge would die at the stroke of midnight. Several police officers were sent to Claridge's home to guard him, but at midnight, Claridge dropped dead, his facial muscles contorting into a rictus grin.
Henry Claridge was the first victim in the Joker's first appearance (though later retcons established the Joker as having killed others before Claridge).
