The Invincibly Super Massive Comic Book Podcast of Stuff: Episode 110
Mar. 24, 2015 9:00pm
This week we run down The Walking Dead, Powers, The Flash, Agents of SHIELD, iZombie, Arrow, and Sliders. Yes, even Sliders which hasn't been on for many many years. Sliiiiiiiders!
It's a very 90s show so don't get your hopes up too high, but the premise is still awesome. I actually wouldn't mind seeing it be remade today with better effects and actors.

When they put it all on Netflix, I binged and it does not hold up. But like you said, great concept, but very dated
Wow I actually started watching Sliders on Netflix not that long ago, great premise for a show.
It was a great show until the third season. Get ready for some major disappointment. I've tried finishing the series three times now, and I've never been able to slog through it. It gets really bad by half way through the third season.

Well I'm on Season 4 now, sort of lost interest once Arturo was killed off. Also more as the season went on the more sexual it got which was kind of off putting because it just came off as sleazy and was only there to try and get some rating back. One of the most sexualized military woman I've seen on a show. Also as the show went on the more I just disliked the main character, it seemed like it started to cater to him more and more.
Tony, you're only half right about Ra's al Ghul. They did feature a Lazarus Pit in the episode (even though they didn't call it that). He dunked his hand in it to heal after he caught Nyssa's sword with his bare hand. Ra's said that the pit's effects begin to ware off after a time. So it seems that a person can extend their life for a long time but not forever. That appears to be the reason Ra's al Ghul became a mantle in the Arrow universe. Plus, there was some kind of prophecy about Oliver being the one who survived or something. Which is why Ra's offered the mantle to him instead of his own daughter.
I'm enjoying Powers so far, and I LOVE the book. 2 episodes in, and I'm willing to invest a few more hours, as the performances so far have been very good, despite the distance. I'm especially enjoying Johnny royale and Eddie Izzard (more Wolf please:)). I think all the actors are doing a good job, and I'm enjoying the variances for exactly the reason mentioned. It's similar to Walking dead in its plot diversions and expanding and playing around with characters rolls. I definately believe that the series will continue to improve as it goes. Thanks for including it in the podcast:D
On my way home I was thinking about the procedural cop dramas and thought that you guys might enjoy my pitch for one of my own.
"See it's like Powers... only it has nothing to do with Brian Michael Bendis. Let's say there are three main characters with a bunch of supporting cast. One of the male leads is super strong, has impenetrable skin, can fly, and gets a new power at the end of each season. The female lead almost has the same strength as the male I previously state, she can also fly, and likes to yell out battle cries before going out on a case. The second male lead, and last main character, is a detective that just moved to town. He doesn't have any super powers but is in peak physical condition, has an array of gadgets, more than a few sidekick (come June maybe an army of street youth on his side) and the connections to be a force to be reckoned with. We'll call it The Watchtower, and we'll never apologize for how awesome it is."
I miss Sliders. It was my generations Quantum Leap.
I actually really liked the time travel ending of "Out Of Time". What I didn't like so much was the next episode "Rogue Time". Mostly because I thought they were setting up this epic 2 part time travel story, but the second part just ended up being a very regular episode.
It's funny, I've described various episodes of Arrow to other people and no matter what Arrow ends up sounding like such a dumb show when you describe it. I realized after talking about it to someone that they've really piled on one crazy convoluted plot line after another. It sounds way to soap opera(y) when described. There's a lot of "he did this because she did that, and he wanted her to do this so this other guy would do that because he did this one thing a long time ago....."

Netflix has a movie called "Parallels", it was probably either a straight to DVD or possibly a SYFY original from 2015. The premise is basically the same as Sliders with slight changes like the method of dimensional travel. It also seemed to be a possible starting point for a series.
