Powers / Abilities:
Organic Nanomachines: Percival's spinal fluid has been artificially retrofitted with microscopic carbon nanoclusters that have been engineered to produce nanomachines by making use of bodily energy. How he came to acquire said augmentations is presently unknown, but the possibility that he installed them himself cannot be discounted. These nanoclusters have latched themselves directly to the neurons within his spinal column, linking directly with both his nervous and endocrine systems. On command, he can order these nanoclusters to begin producing micromachines, which can be utilized with incredible versatility. Chief amongst said uses would be the repair and maintenance of bodily structures, such as organs, bones, and skin. Through concentration, he can order said machines to repair damaged tissues within his body. These nanomachines cannot directly function outside of his closed system. The nanomachines have stimulated his muscles, strengthening them to the pinnacle of human endurance. He can increase his strength by applying nanomachines to the myocytes within his tissues, but this detracts from the effectiveness of his other devices and is a less often-used strategy. With the amplified muscles provided by the internal nanomachines, and with the Epidermis surrounding him, Percival can lift a maximum of one ton. His striking power is equally respectable, and through the specific targeting of weak points in a foe's structure, he can casually cripple even superhumanly durable entities.
Nanotech Epidermis: A layer of nanomesh approximately 2 millimeters thick constantly covers Percival's body, always maintained by the internal nanomachines within his flesh and organs. The Nanotech Epidermis functions like a second skin, hermetically sealing off Percival's form from the outside world. On command, it can open, exposing his face or any other area, such as his fingers, should he need to scan a fingerprint. The Epidermis completely cuts off Percival's form from the external world, but small, borderline microscopic heat vents prevent him from overheating. The Epidermis also covers his eyes, smaller translucent layers covering his irises. These contact-thin eyeholes constantly scan the surrounding environment, providing him with updates on his surroundings as well as providing him with a constant supply of clean oxygen to breathe. Small hydrolytic clusters underneath the jaw recycle air from carbon dioxide by combining it with water. The Nanotech Epidermis is exclusively utilized by Percival, and it is only functional because of his powers. Should another being attempt to utilize it, it would do nothing but close off, and suffocate the attempted user.
Upon the outer layer of the Epidermis, there are a wide number of small "modules," which Percival can use to construct tools and weaponry using his nanomachines. These modules are usually located on the wrist, fingers, legs, feet, and back, though their location can be shifted. Upon his command, the nanomachines construct various frames using pre-designed molds, drawing on the database to immediately construct complex devices for Percival's immediate use, including, but not limited to, bladed weaponry, lockpicks, grappling hooks, and sharp, thrown projectiles. Most of these weapons are not particularly complex, but he has also been known to construct electronic devices, such as lights, scanners, and thermal devices. Percival also carries various tools within compartments concealed on the Epidermis, such as explosive devices of his own design, flashbangs, and EMP projectors.
The Epidermis' defensive capabilities are highly versatile, due to the carbon clusters that can be shaped by the various nanomachines. The clusters are designed to absorb impacts, rippling with blows instead of being rigid against them. When struck, they react much like a liquid, the mechanical polymers bending to the force of the blow. While this function makes the Epidermis weaker than more advanced, metallic body armors, it also allows for maximum freedom of movement. The Epidermis can withstand thermal attacks of up to 1,200 Celsius, but not for long periods of time, lest he overheat within the suit. The Epidermis steadily repairs itself via the carbon nanomachines controlled by Percival. The Epidermis can be deactivated by an electromagnetic attack of sufficient strength, but boasts resistance to more conventional types of EMP attack. Only a sustained, targeted beam can successfully deactivate the Epidermis, requiring it to reboot. Should the Epidermis be deactivated by a concentrated EMP attack, Percival will retain memories of whatever fighting program he downloaded. Should the Epidermis be shut down, he will be able to replicate the techniques of the fighting style he was currently using.
Upon the Epidermis' back, a small pack conceals a pair of micron-thin nanoweave wings, which run from the upper spine to underneath the arms, ending at the wrists. By deploying these wings, Percival can glide for great distances. When utilized in conjunction with rockets underneath his feet and heel, he can propel himself through the air at great speeds, the aerodynamic Epidermis aiding in his flight. His semicomputerized brain aids in plotting the perfect flight path, scanning his surroundings for obstacles and accounting for speed, trajectory, and distance. Should the suit be deactivated by an EMP, he can manually activate the gliding wings by simultaneously pressing two switches within his inner glove. He would not be able to fly in this state, but were he falling, the glide function would be enough to save his life.
The small, pointed antennae located on the Epidermis' head are utilized to connect to other machines and monitor signals in the area. These rigid antennae also conduct constant scans of the surrounding area, ranging from radio signal scans to electromagnetic pulses to even an echolocation-like noise that can map his surroundings via radar. The antennae also pick up and record sound, with a maximum effective listening range of several hundred feet. The filter within the antennae also prevent loud noises or sonic attacks from damaging his ears. Were he to attempt to use his technopathy on another object, the antennae aid in the endeavor, amplifying his brainwaves while preventing deadly feedback.
The Epidermis makes use of a massive web of nerve-stimulation technologies in order to give Percival the sensation of touch whilst holding an object. This sensation is strongest in his fingertips, but he maintains the ability to feel everywhere else as well, to a lesser degree. Upon command, this neural network can be dampened, filtering away pain from his system. This grants Percival an uncanny pain tolerance, allowing him to sustain himself through even the most harrowing of situations. One setting immediately dampens his nociceptive synapses if they register above discomfort, shutting off his ability to feel physical trauma and enabling him to function normally, overriding the body's natural tendencies to shut down when exposed to too much stress.
Internal Computer Matrix: The collection of nanoclusters attached to his neurons have greatly increased the rate at which Percival can react to and process information. Additionally, thanks to the small radar antennae, he can wirelessly connect to any basic network the antennae pick up, including the World Wide Web. Through this connection, he can search for relevant information on nearly any subject, processing and sorting the information using a combination of his enhanced synapses within his nervous system and a microcomputer within the Nanotech Epidermis. If he is unable to acquire the signal, his antennae will send a "ping," which can be used to pick up other radio-emitting sources and latch onto them, essentially allowing him to tap into a nearby machine's signal and use it to connect to a network. This computer matrix also contains a database with a myriad of fighting styles pre-loaded, in order for him to tap into during a conflict.
The computer matrix is linked directly to the Epidermis, constantly informing Percival on its current state. If any hacking attempts were made on the Epidermis, it would alert him, and a constantly changing "Thought Code" would prevent the suit from being controlled by another. The Thought Code is a constantly developed encryption that is actually based on the current thought process of Percival. For the suit to be successfully hacked, the hacker would need the sufficient hardware to actually break the encryption, as well as the precise knowledege exactly what he was thinking at the time. Even if they had a general idea, they would need to match his thoughts down to the exact detail, making this code borderline unbreakable. Such an endeavor would be akin to attempting to replicate a childhood dream down to every precise detail, exactly the way he remembered it. He would need to be heavily sedated to make the suit even remotely accessible by any other being without his explicit authorization.
The Thought Code also grants Percival an extremely advanced thought process. In addition to his uncanny reaction times, he can analyze data at the speed of a supercomputer. His own system, however, is powered by his own thoughts. The code behind it takes his creativity, transforming it into direct code to find a solution to whatever challenge he may face. The thought process has been likened to Alexander the Great's solution to the Gordian Knot; if there is an answer, Percival's mind will find it, no matter how unconventional it may be.
Through his massive array of signals and network interconnectivity, Percival can transfer his consciousness to a new, spare body should one be damaged beyond repair, or captured by someone with the capabilities to incarcerate him successfully. By compressing his consciousness into the thought code, and sending it out like a radio signal, he can order his machines to reconstruct his body from a single strand of his DNA, re-applying his memories once the body is complete. Because of this, permanently killing Percival is borderline impossible, no matter how frail his physical body may be in comparison to invulnerable superhumans.
Stealth Function: The Epidermis can become invisible to the naked eye via a collection of refractive lenses on the surface of the skin, which are stimulated by minute electronic pulses on Percival's command. These lenses utilize a combination of light manipulation and cameras located on the opposite side of the suit to make it appear invisible. During stealth mode, all heat exhausts are heavily processed and dampened, preventing Percival from being detected by thermal imaging, or infrared. As a side effect of this countermeasure, however, he may overheat within the suit, as the lack of ventilation can be highly detrimental to his bodily functions. He can maintain stealth mode for as long as he chooses, provided he has the necessary power. On his command, the vents can be opened, but this leaves him vulnerable to detection through infrared. Due to the nanomachines within his body, he can endure overheating for far longer than any normal man, but it will still affect him adversely given enough time.
Combat Techniques
Pre-loaded Martial Prowess: Percival's computerized brain can work flawlessly in conjunction with his nanocluster Epidermis to direct his limbs and body during combat, granting him a variety of fighting styles to use in combat. Comprehensive databases on each combat technique are readily available to Percival, enabling him to scan a foe, determine their fighting style, and counter it accordingly. Downloaded fighting styles include Krav Maga, Judo, Aikido, Savate, Kung Fu, Tae Kwon Do, Drunken Brawling, Escrima, and many others. He has encyclopedic knowledge of the human body, allowing him to make use of pressure points in a foe's form to instantaneously paralyze them with a strike. His primary weapons, used in conjunction with his artificial martial arts skills, are a group of unconventional blades attached to the back of his wrists. These blades, composed of razor sharp carbon edges formed by the nanomachines, are wielded much like one would use knives in battle. The "Gash-V," or reverse grip, is utilized to bring the blades to bear on a foe by passing over them with his wrists. Additionally, these blades can be launched from his wrists by sparking a reaction within the Epidermis layer, propelling them violently towards a foe. Spinning through the air, they have enough velocity to embed their edges in a metal wall.
Artificial Close-Quarters Mastery: In addition to his unarmed capabilities, Percival is no slouch in the melee weapons department either. He can form hollow, but sharp, carbon-based weaponry out of his nanomachines, constructing them atop the modules on his legs or back. Commonly created weapons include daggers, escrima sticks, small swords, axes, nunchaku, and a hollow bo staff. He can use all of these weapons with great skill, provided he has the time to upload the required techniques and put them to use. By scanning his opponent, he can determine the greatest weapon to use that would fit the given situation. He can electrically charge the outer layer of the Epidermis in order to break a foe's hold, or selectively electrify his fists to add stunning shocks to his blows.
Technomancy: Through direct contact with another networked device, Percival can attempt to directly manipulate it's systems, taking control of it using the nanomachines within his spinal column and brain. The antennae on the helmet of the Epidermis aid in amplifying his signal, allowing him to take control of a machine through focus. This hacking can also be used to shut down computer systems, as well as probe into advanced networks. He can decrypt any code given enough time, but he must focus on doing so, making hacking during combat less than viable. Occasionally, attempting to hack into a highly secure network can put a strain on his body, and has been known to cause temporary nosebleeds.
Nanomachine Cloud: Through intense focus, Percival can exhaust his current supply of nanomachines in a surge outwards, expelling them from his pores in a small cloud. This cloud can then be commanded by him just as though they were within his body, making use of them to reconstruct damaged structures or manipulate his environment. Additionally, they can be utilized for extremely brutal attacks on unprepared foes, diffusing through their skin and targeting their internal organs. Because the nanomachine cloud leaves him vulnerable for about a minute while his bloodstream produces more micromachines, it as an incredibly rare technique for him to utilize. By using their small manipulator claws to attack the physical bonds that hold an object together, a swarm of nanomachines can disassemble objects on a molecular level, ripping apart the bonds and decomposing the object into nothingness. Percival's nanomachines have been observed through a titanium bulkhead in only two minutes, creating a hole large enough for a man to step through.
Nanomachine Darts: Through a simple flick of his wrist, Percival can project a miniscule dart containing the microscopic machines that sustain him. Once the dart has embedded itself in the target, the target's clothes, or even an object they're holding close to their body, he can command them to enter their bloodstream and replicate, allowing him to wreak havoc on a foe's innards. What's more, a DNA replication matrix allows them to camoflauge themselves as red blood cells, preventing them from being targeted by foes with healing factors. They are extraordinarily difficult to identify by natural means; a healing factor would prove fruitless against such an attack. Within moments, he can have the ever-replicating machines embedded within an essential organ, ready to constrict and pierce the vital, life-providing piece of his opponent.
Variable-Frequency Sonic Emitter: Sound is classified as a vibration that can be received, or perceived, by a receptor. These vibrations travel through a medium, such as air or water, affecting the environment with high frequencies that can elicit reactions from various receptors. Percival developed a weaponized sonic emitter for use in combat, designed with the express purpose of creating and directing specific vibrations towards a single target. The sonic emitter's frequency output is highly variable, from low-end bass-like blasts that have been observed to actually repel objects, to extremely high-pitched vibrations that can shatter reinforced glass. The Emitters, like all of his tools, can be rearranged, changing their location on his body, but they are commonly found within the palms of his gloves. With mere thought, he can adjust the frequencies of the sonic weapon, altering the effects it has on an opponent. Additionally, they can be configured to function as microphones, amplifying his voice, or a pre-recorded message. The intense feedback of the sonic emitter makes it necessary for Percival to wear the rest of the Epidermis when in use, lest he damage his own internal organs.
Another unique application of the Sonic Emitter is the introduction of audio dampening to the Epidermis and its functions. By operating the emitters on a single, low-frequency "hum," Percival can emit a vibration that cancels out any other immediate sounds in the area. The vibration matches the surrounding area's noise level based on Percival's other scanning technologies, estimating the amount of sound that would be present were he not in the area. It then replicates this extrapolated data, rendering Percival absolutely silent. In layman's terms, it guesses what the area would sound like without him present, and then proceeds to emit that noise. Through this technique, Percival can make himself, or any other target, absolutely inaudible.
Basic Tools and Gadgets
The suit contains a wide variety of useful tools and gadgets, without their necessarily having an explicit combat-related purpose. Concealed within the right wrist is a miniscule laser projector, capable of putting off temperatures of nearly 28,000 Kelvin at short ranges and at maximum power output. This laser projector can be used for welding metal together, or for cutting through obstacles in Percival's path. The straight beam has a maximum effective range of approximately 50 meters. Within his belt, there are small hydro-pellets that can coat an area in fire-extinguisher like foam, capable of dampening most blazes. The pellets, once thrown, are activated via a signal from the Epidermis' antennae. Small pellets that function like the extinguisher are also present, but rather than extinguish fires, these pellets harden and condense after five seconds in oxygen. They can be used to fortify broken structures or even to disable foes.
