What is the worst Superman that Superman has had in recent years?
Superman
Character » Superman appears in 18950 issues.
Sent to Earth as an infant from the dying planet Krypton, Kal-El was adopted by the loving Kent family and raised in America's heartland as Clark Kent. Using his immense solar-fueled powers, he became Superman to defend mankind against all manner of threats while championing truth, justice, and the American way!
Worst Superman artist?
@yarva: Isn't he like the worst artist for everything though?
@yarva: What's wrong with that?
@yarva: Isn't he like the worst artist for everything though?
yeah, I'd say close second though. First would go to Jae Lee, I hated his art

Totally agree, had to skip some of parts to not read his style. Not saying he's bad but his Superman is more asian than Kong Kenan.
@captainmarvel4ever: Who did the artwork for that?
@jonny1995: His name's written in that images intro caption
Joe Bogdanove
Frank Quitely. All Star Superman might of been readable if it wasn't for him.
I think his art is generally ok but I definitely agree about his Superman. His Clark Kent is annoyingly blockish.
Art has come a long way in the last fifteen years though, and it's not really fair to be too harsh on artists pre 2000.

I disagree. Some of my all time favorite artists were from the 80's and 90's. Brian Bolland, David Mazzucchelli, Berry Windsor-Smith, Todd McFarlane, and Jim Lee are some of the best artists in the industry. If they were capable of being great in the 70's, 80's, and 90's, then Quitely should of been able to do the same in the 2000's.
John Romita Jr.
I love JRJ's artwork. He is one of my favorite comic book artists, but I don't like the way he is drawing Superman.
@captainmarvel4ever: Oh, okay. Thanks.

I like his classic art. His work on X-Men, Iron Man, and Spider-Man in the 70s and 80s was good. But he changed his style in modern times to a more blocky style. I don't think any of his art from the 2000s and up is that good.
Both Franks are on my list, but to throw one out that hasn't been named, Ed McGuinness
@saintwildcard: Is that Kingdom Come Superman?
@saintwildcard: Is that Kingdom Come Superman?
No, but it is done by ALex Ross. DOn't know where that image came from though. I find that rendition overly masculine, like if he was a gangster or thug
@invain: I like how he draws the Hulk tho. He is also drawing pretty good energy effects.

Superman wore a black S shield after the Our Worlds at War to mourn those who had died in the conflict. It's the same colour scheme as KC Supes' suit but the S is different.
@wollfmyth209: and I was thinking to myself; Why hasn't anyone said Miller yet?

I think he means the Alex Ross Superman I posted
@saintwildcard: Just realised you put Ed McGuinness and Alex Ross in the Worst Superman artists list. No wonder you're a sketchy Superman fan if you put those two in here undeservedly.

I stand by the Ed McGuinness one. His Roidman is disgusting. His fist is as big as his face. As for Alex Ross, I specifically chose that picture for a reason, I think with the beard he looks much better, but without it he just looks like some 30's gangster.
@thatguywithheadphones: I think he's gotten better, but he has had his shitty moments

You're just jealous Nuperman never had that many muscles bulging out of him. And as for Ross, you chose a specific picture that you think makes him look bad. I'll do the opposite and show one of his good pieces.
He definitely doesn't deserve to be on here that's for sure.

Alex Ross is a god, how can people not like him?

I Prefer the beefy Lumberjack by Kuder or the Athletic Football Star by Rocafort over the Roided out hunk of a monster.
He's a great artist, I can't take that away from him. But The way he draws Superman to me just.... eh. The beard helps
@saintwildcard: I also prefer a more lean and athletic Superman to over muscled man, but McGuinness is especially good on the action sequences. I think you're still sore from that hot tub waffle scene from Loeb's Superman run.
The beard hasn't been in most versions of Superman so it's not a regular thing.

I had honestly forgotten about that... thanks a lot for reminding me. I'm not taking into account all the other stuff they draw, just how they draw the character (although I just find his fetish for steroid muscles disturbing in all the art I've seen from him).

I know... doesn't change what I said though. I think without the beard his Superman is just too..... gangster-ish. It also hides the fat on his face.

This
@saintwildcard: .....what?
Is the Alex Ross art actually supposed to be bad?
It's one of the coolest if you ask me.
It's a troll layered with some truth. WHile I do think Ross is a great artist, not a fan of his Superman. Major "stick up butt" vibe.
