    Wonder Woman

Character » Wonder Woman appears in 8881 issues.

The Amazon princess, blessed with god-like super abilities, Wonder Woman is one of Earth's most powerful defenders of peace, justice, and equality and a member of the Justice League. She is considered an archetype for many heroines outside of comic book. Her initial origin depicted her as a clay baby brought to life by patron goddess Aphrodite, but in recent years she has been depicted as the daughter of Zeus and Amazon queen Hippolyta.

    According to Connie Nielson

“She was very clear about what the Amazons were supposed to be. And I think that there had originally been some idea that the Amazons had been deeply traumatized by some kind of horrible event that involved mass rape. And Patty just said, ‘Hm, no. No, no, we’re not gonna put that on those Amazons. We don’t want to start out seeing them as victims, and why would we? Let’s just get rid of that part and make sure that these are heroes in their own terms. They’ve not been part of the victims of history. They are these unbelievably courageous women and we’re not gonna saddle them with a trauma from the outset. We’re going to have them be received by people on the basis of who they are. What is their culture? Why are they so fierce? What does it mean to live on an island where there are no guys?’ It made so much sense, you know? You needed them to have a very uncomplicated background in order to be able to just accept them as the heroes that they are.”

I'd agree with her take or approach, especially given how this is being used against Dr. Psycho to appear in a lot more Wonder Woman issues by labeling him a certain way and for unexplained reasons as to why he's been kept out of the main Wonder Woman title quite a bit, since the Perez run. Bring in Dr. Psycho, and, while we may see him for him, we should also see Wonder Woman for her and the Amazons for them, realistically speaking; not so much to ignore anyone's trauma or pretend that the trauma doesn't exist, just avoiding this approach that there is this implied shield that any of their actions are covered by their past trauma; a more realistic story would involve explaining how a person's trauma played into their actions to help better understand someone's approach to things, as to me, it makes for a much more interesting story; everyone has their flaws, you just have to narrow them down; it should make for a great reboot and new start, while developing Wonder Woman around her Joker and Lex.
