Biography
Once upon a time in Midnight City, there was one of many terminally online losers with nothing left to live for except the total digital package at his local virtual reality bar. He spent all his time and money there, eventually losing his job as a hacker for a prominent pharmaceutical company due to his poor work ethic. He didn't care. He had his precious fake world to exist, and quite possibly die, in. No one would notice if he disappeared or not.
But, as life often does, it proved stubborn to the last and difficult to actually extinguish. Perhaps triggered as part of an innate survival instinct, the man's previously unknown Mutant gene kicked in and fused him to a particularly aggressive computer virus in his headset. This caused him to change forever into the psychotic electronic crime lord known as Megabyte!
Powers
- Complete Electrical Symbiosis
Megabyte is essentially a living computer program brought to the real world through bizarre circumstances. He cannot be injured through conventional means, though he is particularly susceptible to more esoteric forms of attack. Anything that manipulates energy can affect him in some small way, with magnets and electricity being the number one culprits but for opposite reasons. Magnets scramble his abilities to stick together and causes him to enter a comatose state where he has to manually reprogram his own brain. Electricity, however, gives him the jumpstart needed to counteract this immediately and is the primary resource he commands on a grand scale.
Water also disrupts his physical grasp on reality in much the same way as magnets do, and is much more common - leading to his extreme disdain for it, though that hasn't changed much from when he wasn't a digital virus.
He is a walking conduit for high voltage, both input and output, with an emphasis on overloading opposing electronics and supercharging his own devices. He can generate a static field so that he can jam distinct communication signals, leaving police blind to his whereabouts for a brief time. The applications for this power are basically endless in a place as reliant on it as Midnight City.
His limits are at this point unknown, but he has been shot before while at low voltage. It seems to be a battery situation, with the more electricity he absorbs simultaneously making him more powerful and unstable.
As long as his internal database is fully charged, he has absolute control over his personal supply of electrical energy and can even integrate himself into it for defensive and travel purposes. He can always steal more and use it as his own, but is powerless as far as utilizing sources outside of his immediate vicinity.
The Plasma Screen Mafia
Named for their boss's unusual computer monitor head, this gang has made a name for itself in Midnight City as of recently due to their daring and often brutal raids into opposing territories as well as their penchant for robbing banks. Megabyte only allows vicious criminals into his growing army, preferring those with an addiction to virtual reality just like he used to have so that he can more effectively string them along into more dangerous heists. These adrenaline junkies are therefore permanently trapped by Megabyte's digital stranglehold, unable to discern fact from fiction in their delusional bids for fame and glory.
