JASON AARON Pens Poignant Farewell to THOR

Six years and one day ago, Jason Aaron's run with Thor began with Thor: God of Thunder #1. It ends next month with King Thor #4. On the occasion, Jason Aaron wrote a farewell letter to the character, the franchise, and the Thor fans - and an excerpt has been shared with Newsarama.

“Thor is truly the sort of god (or gods, I guess, as I wrote a whole bunch of Thors) that I would like to believe in," writes Aaron. "The god who wakes up every single day and looks at that hammer, with its worthiness enchantment, and doesn’t know if he or she will be able to lift it. Who lives every day questioning their own worthiness, aspiring for it, while also embracing their unworthiness, their failings.

"The kind of god who delights and takes unbridled joy from the wild, unimaginable beauty all around them. A god who sometimes drinks too much, sometimes loves too recklessly, who thinks both too highly and too lowly of themselves, who laughs big, weeps bigger, who thunders and broods and feels things deeply, even through near impenetrable flesh Who would die a thousand times to save what's most precious to them, which is us.

"Like the Vikings of old weaving their sagas, I was fortunate enough to be able to dream that very god into being, while standing on the shoulders of god-spawning giants with names like Lee and Kirby and Simonson. And now Thor will always be very real to me. The God of Thunder will always be a profound presence in my life.”

@mcflicky: @thunderingthorfan:i wouldn't have said it better myself ,the dude stared off with a BANG but went down hill,he had the potential to have the top 3 greatest Thor run in history but messed it up....Lets see what Danny has in-store for us.

In his farewell message he basically wants a fictional god to be just like a human being. So a being that is virtually immortal and has lived for thousands of years wakes up every morning questioning their worthiness? Don't their actions over the centuries solidify that? I'd like to see a writer use their imagination and portray a god as....a god maybe?

@lazarus4tempest: the whole purpose of “fiction” is to be awed and stirred by the unbelievable. Therefore, Aaron is a total failure!

@thunderingthorfan: i agree with that but i wouldn't take away from the GOT run that was perfection.......but that trash era with the impostor Jane is a BIG failure.he failed and alot of things but a total failure that my friend is reaching.

@lazarus4tempest: I’ll further my point: GOT was a rehash of Jurgens’ Desak saga. Polished up but, rehash nonetheless. Being so, makes it less impactful. Now, that was a year or year and a half storyline and we had about FOUR years of JaneImposThor. That nullifies and invalidates the one UN-ORIGINAL storyline that he did well. My opinion.

AND........Dan did it WITHOUT humiliating Thor! Lest we forget Thor lost access (and worthiness) to Mjolnir while also losing an arm yet still killed Hulk and Thing WITHOUT the ODÍNFORCE.
